Translation:
Article: Bingxia Yi (a type of eye disease where the opacity is deep and slightly cyan) presents with a deep color slightly tinged with cyan, traversing horizontally across the cornea (Wu Jing), accompanied by itching and pain in the eyeball, tearing with discharge, and red vessels surrounding the eye margin. This indicates heat in the Liver Meridian. It is appropriate to apply Shiyan Dan externally to the eye and take Jiongwui San internally (composed of Chongwei Zi, Mangxiao, Dahuang, Xixin, Heishen, Chishaoyao, Zhi Mu, Zhike, Fangfeng).
Formula: The formula for Shiyan Dan can be found at the end of the volume.
Jiongwui San Formula
Chongwei Zi (Ecliptae Fructus) 2 qian, Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 1 qian, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 5 fen, Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix) 1 qian, Chishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) 1.5 qian, Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) 1 qian, Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 1 qian, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 2 qian.
Grind the above herbs into a coarse powder. Add two zhan of water, decoct until one zhan remains. Take warm after meals, some time later.
Note: [1] In the syndrome of deep Bingxia Yi, the opacity is cyan-white like ice, traversing horizontally across the cornea. Symptoms may include intermittent itching or pain without fixed timing, sticky discharge with tearing, and red vessels on the sclera. This is caused by heat in the Liver Meridian.
[2] It is appropriate to apply Shiyan Dan externally and take Jiongwui San internally.
Article: Bingyi (a type of cataract) presents with a pupil color bright as ice. Whether viewed in dim light or sunlight, the shape remains unchanged. A faint whiteness is visible penetrating outward from within the eye. This is caused by the combined pathogenic factors of Lung Wind and Liver Heat attacking upwards. Although acupuncture of the Du Meridian is indicated according to the syndrome, excessive bleeding may反而 damage the eye. It is appropriate to take Huanjing Wan (containing Renshen, Wuweizi, Fangfeng, Zhi Mu, Xixin, etc.) and herbs such as Huangqin, Jiegeng, Cheqianzi, Shengdihuang, and Chongwei Zi.
Formula: Bingyi Huanjing Wan Formula
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) 0.5 liang, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 2 liang, Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) 2 liang, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 0.5 liang, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 liang, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 1 liang, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 2 liang, Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix) 1 liang, Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) 2 liang, Chongwei Zi (Ecliptae Fructus) 2 liang.
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Make pills using refined honey, sized like tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian on an empty stomach, delivered with tea infusion.
Note: [1] Bingyi internal obstruction presents with a firm pupil color, white and bright like ice.
[2] Whether observed in dark places or under sunlight, it appears uniform, unlike Yuanyi (round opacity) which differs in brightness and darkness.
[3] Faint whiteness penetrates outward from within the eye. This syndrome is caused by the combined pathogenic factors of Liver Heat and Lung Wind attacking the eyes. It is appropriate to use the "Kang" needling method to induce bleeding for cure. However, excessive bleeding from the Du Meridian should be avoided; if too much blood is lost, it may worsen visual dimness.
[4] For internal medication, Huanjing Wan is suitable for clearing heat and tonifying simultaneously. The acupoint named Shangxing is located in the depression one cun above the midpoint of the hairline, directly above the nose.
