Translation:
The text states: In the early stage of Yuan Yi (Round Opacity) cataract, a small, round, bluish-white opacity appears on the cornea (black pupil), resembling an oil drop floating in water. This condition is caused by Liver Wind rushing upward and Brain Marrow fluid flowing downward. When viewed in bright light, the opacity appears smaller; when viewed in dim light, it appears larger.
For deficiency-heat patterns, Lingyang Jiao Yin (Antelope Horn Decoction) should be used, which includes Antelope Horn, Qian Niu Zi (Plantago Seed), Xi Xin (Asarum), Ren Shen (Ginseng), Fu Ling (Poria), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), etc., decocted together. For excess patterns, Fang Feng San (Saposhnikovia Powder) should be used, which includes Fang Feng, Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Mang Xiao (Mirabilite), Da Huang (Rhubarb), Chong Wei Zi (Leonurus Fruit), Hei Shen (Black Ginseng), Xi Xin, Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), etc., decocted for administration.
Formula: Yuan Yi Lingyang Yin (Round Opacity Antelope Horn Decoction)
Antelope Horn (Lingyang Jiao) 1 qian, Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi) 1 qian, Asarum (Xi Xin) 5 fen, Ginseng (Ren Shen) 1 qian, Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin) 1 qian, Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) 2 qian, Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu) 1 qian.
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two cups of water and decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after evening meal.
Yuan Yi Fang Feng San Formula (Round Opacity Saposhnikovia Powder)
Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) 2 qian, Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin) 1 qian, Platycodon Root (Jie Geng) 2 qian, Mirabilite (Mang Xiao) 1 qian, Rhubarb (Da Huang) 1 qian, Leonurus Fruit (Chong Wei Zi) 1 qian, Black Ginseng (Hei Shen) 1 qian, Asarum (Xi Xin) 5 fen, Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu) 2 qian, Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi) 1 qian.
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two cups of water and decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
[Note] [1] At the onset of Yuan Yi (Round Opacity) cataract, a bluish-white spot appears on the cornea, resembling an oil drop floating on water. Viewed in the dark, the opacity appears large and bluish-white; viewed in bright light, its shape appears smaller.
[2] The etiology is due to Liver Wind rushing upward and Brain Marrow fluid flowing downward. One must examine whether the pattern is deficiency or excess and regulate accordingly.
[3] For deficiency patterns, use Lingyang Jiao Yin (Antelope Horn Decoction) to clear deficiency heat; for excess patterns, use Fang Feng San (Saposhnikovia Powder) to drain excess heat pathogens.
The text states: Hua Yi (Slippery Opacity) cataract presents as an opacity within the pupil resembling a mercury bead, slightly containing a yellow hue. This is caused by Liver Wind rushing upward and Brain Marrow fluid flowing downward. The patient experiences no itching or pain, but vision gradually becomes dim.
One must use Bu Gan Tang (Liver-Nourishing Decoction), which includes Poria (Fu Ling), Platycodon Root (Jie Geng), Leonurus Fruit (Chong Wei Zi), Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin), Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuan Xiong), Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu), Black Ginseng (Hei Shen), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), and Ginseng (Ren Shen). If there is excess heat, use Jue Ming Wan (Concha Arcae Pill), which includes Concha Arcae (Shi Jue Ming), Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi), Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi), Asarum (Xi Xin), Rhubarb (Da Huang), Poria (Fu Ling), Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu), Leonurus Fruit (Chong Wei Zi), Black Ginseng (Hei Shen), Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng), and Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin).
Formula: Hua Yi Bu Gan Tang Formula (Slippery Opacity Liver-Nourishing Decoction)
Poria (Fu Ling) 1 qian, Platycodon Root (Jie Geng) 1 qian, Leonurus Fruit (Chong Wei Zi) 2 qian, Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin) 1 qian, Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) 2 qian, Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuan Xiong) 1 qian, Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu) 1 qian, Black Ginseng (Hei Shen) 1 qian, Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui) 2 qian, Ginseng (Ren Shen) 1 qian.
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two cups of water and decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
Hua Yi Jue Ming Wan Formula (Slippery Opacity Concha Arcae Pill)
Concha Arcae (Shi Jue Ming) 1 liang, Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi) 1 liang, Schisandra Berry (Wu Wei Zi) 0.5 liang, Asarum (Xi Xin) 0.5 liang, Rhubarb (Da Huang) 1 liang, Poria (Fu Ling) 1 liang, Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu) 1 liang, Leonurus Fruit (Chong Wei Zi) 1 liang, Black Ginseng (Hei Shen) 1 liang, Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) 1 liang, Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin) 1 liang.
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian before meals, washed down with tea infusion.
[Note] [1] In Hua Yi (Slippery Opacity) cataract, there is an opacity within the center of the pupil resembling a mercury bead, slightly containing a yellow hue. There is no itching or pain, no tearing, and the opacity covers the pupil, causing gradual loss of vision. Later, both eyes may be affected sequentially. This is caused by Liver Wind rushing upward and Brain Marrow fluid flowing downward.
[2] It is appropriate to use Bu Gan Tang (Liver-Nourishing Decoction) to clear and disperse deficiency heat. If there is excess heat remaining, use Jue Ming Wan (Concha Arcae Pill) to guide the heat downward.
