初生门
The condition of "playing tongue" (Nong She) is characterized by the tongue frequently shaking within the mouth. This is caused by heat in the Heart and Spleen, resulting in dry and scorched lips, irritability with fever, a dry tongue, and foul-smelling stool. Both Xiehuang San (Spleen-Draining Powder) and Daochi Tang (Guide Out Red Decoction) can treat this.
[Note]
When an infant shakes its tongue due to internal heat, it is because of accumulated heat in the Heart and Spleen, leading to scorched lips, dry tongue, irritability with fever, and foul stool.
One should first use Xiehuang San (Spleen-Draining Powder), followed by Xiexin Daochi Tang (Heart-Draining Guide-Out Red Decoction).
(Xiehuang San) Huoxiang Ye (Leaf of Agastache rugosa), Shanzhizi Chao (Fried Gardenia jasminoides fruit), Shigao Huan (Calcined Gypsum fibrosum), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Gancao Sheng (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Use Dengxincao (Junci Medulla) as a guiding herb, decoct in water and take orally.
(Prescription Song)
Xiehuang San for playing tongue is most miraculous;
Huoxiang Ye paired with Shanzhiren (Gardenia seed);
Gancao, Fangfeng, and calcined Shigao;
Decoct temporarily and take orally with Dengxincao.
(Xiexin Daochi Tang) See the entry for "Protruding Tongue" (Tu She).
Chapter: Newborns
The condition of "double tongue" (Chong She) presents with swelling protruding from under the tongue, resembling another tongue shape. This is caused by accumulated heat in the Heart and Spleen attacking upwards. Internally, one should take Qingre Yin (Heat-Clearing Drink); externally, applying Liangxin San (Heart-Cooling Powder) yields the best results.
[Note]
"Double tongue" refers to swelling near the root of the tongue that resembles a tongue, hence the name.
This is due to heat in the Heart and Spleen; it is appropriate to take Qingre Yin and apply Liangxin San externally via insufflation.
(Qingre Yin) Huanglian Sheng (Raw Coptidis Rhizoma), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Gancao Sheng (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Lianqiao Qu Xin (Forsythiae Fructus, heart removed), Lianzi (Nelumbinis Semen).
Use Danzhuyez (Leaf of Lophatherum gracile) as a guiding herb, decoct in water, and instill into the mouth occasionally.
(Prescription Song)
Qingre Yin contains Huanglian, Shengdi, Lianzi, Mutong, and Gancao;
Add Lianqiao and Danzhuye, decoct together, and naturally peace will ensue.
(Liangxin San) Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Pengsha (Borax), Huangbo (Phellodendri Cortex), Huanglian Ban Shairenru (Coptidis Rhizoma mixed with human milk and dried), Renzhongbai (Calcinatus Ureae), each 2 qian (calcined);
Fenghuaxiao (Effloresced Natrii Sulfatis) 1 qian;
Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) 2 fen.
Grind all above into an extremely fine powder and insufflate; it is very effective.
Chapter: Newborns
The condition of "wooden tongue" (Mu She) is formed by accumulated heat in the Heart and Spleen. The symptoms include swelling and stiffness like wood, indicating a often ominous prognosis. Externally, apply Chuanxiao San (Mirabilite Powder) to the tongue; internally, take Xiexin Daochi San (Heart-Draining Guide-Out Red Powder) which is effective.
[Note]
The condition of wooden tongue is entirely caused by accumulated heat in the Heart and Spleen.
Since the meridians of the Spleen are located under the tongue, and the tongue is the sprout of the Heart, when fire attacks upwards, it causes the infant's tongue to swell, become full, stiff like wood, and unable to move,
hence named wooden tongue.
Apply Chuanxiao San externally to the tongue, and take Xiexin Daochi Tang internally. If not treated urgently, it will inevitably lead to untreatable conditions.
(Chuanxiao San) Puxiao (Natrii Sulfatis) 5 fen, Zhen Zixue (True Purple Snow) 2 fen, Yan (Sal) 1 fen. Grind the above into a fine powder, mix with Zhuli (Bambusae Succus) to apply on the tongue.
(Xiexin Daochi San) See the entry for "Protruding Tongue" (Tu She).
