Pan Chang Qi Tong (Colicky abdominal pain due to cold stagnation) manifests as pain caused by cold evil condensing in the intestines, with the infant curling the waist, refusing to nurse, and knitting the eyebrows. Treatment should settle pain and warm the middle, selecting Doukou San; external application of the umbilical moxibustion/warming method is worthy of promotion for its efficacy.
[Note]
All cases of Pan Chang Qi Tong are caused by the condensation of cold evil. Since the Liver and Kidney reside in the lower jiao, pain causes the waist to bend. It is appropriate to treat primarily with Baidoukou San.
The external warming method applied to the umbilicus yields very rapid results.
(Baidoukou San / White Cardamom Powder)
Baidoukou (White Cardamom Fructus), Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Qingpi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride, stir-fried with vinegar), Chenpi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae), Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Radix et Rhizoma), Xiangfumizhi (Cyperi Rhizoma, processed), Peng'e Zhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) in equal parts. Grind all into a fine powder.
Take one qian per dose, mixed with decoction of Zisu (Perilla Leaf).
(Wen Pi Fa / Warming Spleen Method - Note: Text says "Warming Spleen" but context implies Umbilical warming)
Dandouchi (Sojaes Semen Praeparatum), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) each two qian, chopped; Congbai (Scallion White) five stalks; Yan (Salt) one liang. Stir-fry together until hot, place on the umbilicus and apply heat.

After birth, the infant's eyes hurt and are difficult to open; the eyelid margins are red and ulcerated, caused by fetal heat attacking inwardly. Internally administer Dihuang Tang to clear heat; externally apply Zhenjin San to the eyes, and clarity will be restored.
[Note]
Mu Lan (Ocular Ulceration/Eyelid Inflammation) presents as redness and ulceration of the eyelid margins, with pain and itching making it difficult to open the eyes.
This occurs because heat toxin accumulated during gestation attacks the eyes after birth, resulting in these symptoms.
Internally take Dihuang Tang to clear heat; externally apply Zhenjin San to the eyes, and the condition will heal spontaneously.
(Dihuang Tang / Rehmannia Decoction) See formula under "Eyes Unable to Open".
(Zhenjin San / True Gold Powder)
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, raw), Huangbo (Phellodendri Cortex, raw), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) each one qian; Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, stir-fried, skin and tip removed) half a qian. Cut all into pieces to make a powder.
Soak in breast milk overnight, dry, and grind into an extremely fine powder. Mix with juice from raw Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) equivalent to one zi, and frequently instill into the eyes until healed.

Xuan Yong (Suspended Abscess/Uvular Swelling) appears as swelling above the mouth/throat, caused by fetal heat toxin rushing upward. The method requires puncturing the swelling, wiping with salt water, and dusting with Rusheng San for effective results.
[Note]
Any swelling above the throat resembling a reed sheath filled with water is named Xuan Yong.
Lutuo refers to the sheath of a reed shoot. This is caused by fetal heat toxin attacking upward.
It must be pierced using a long needle wrapped in cotton, leaving the sharp point exposed, to drain green, yellow, or red fluid. If not resolved, pierce again the next day.
After piercing, wipe the mouth with salt water, and apply Rusheng San or Yizi San to the affected area.
(Rusheng San / Like-Sage Powder)
Qianshuang (Plumbum Subacetatum) one qian; Zhen Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus, genuine) one qian; Taiyuan Yuanjing Shi (Talcum, prepared); Naosha (Natrii Chloridum) each two qian and five fen (water-ground); Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum) five fen.
Grind all into an extremely fine powder. Use one zi amount per application to the lesion.
(Yizi San / One-Zi Powder) For applying inside the mouth.
Zhusha (Cinnabaris, water-ground), Pengsha (Borax) each five fen; Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) each one zi.
Grind all into an extremely fine powder. Mix with a small amount of honey, dip a goose feather quill, and apply.
