[Prescription Verse] Yan Dan (Eyelid Carbuncle) arises on the upper and lower eyelids, presenting with redness, heat, swelling, and pain. If the swelling is soft and drooping, it indicates a predominance of Wind pathogen; if it is inflamed, red, purple, and hard, it indicates a predominance of Heat pathogen. Taking Jingfang Baidu San (Jingfang Decoction for Overcoming Toxins) yields effective results.
[Annotation] This condition is caused by Damp-Heat in the Spleen and Stomach combined with Wind invasion, manifesting as redness, swelling, and pain. If the swelling is soft and drooping, impairing vision, it suggests a predominance of Wind, where edema is easy to resolve; if it is inflamed, red, purple, and hard, it suggests a predominance of Heat, where swelling and hardness are difficult to dissipate. In the initial stage, Jingfang Baidu San should be used to disperse Wind. For those with thirst and dry stools, Neishu Huanglian Tang (Internal Purging Coptis Decoction) should be used to purge Heat. For cases that do not resolve after a long duration, Tounong San (Pus-Permeating Powder) should be taken, and once the pus matures, it should be punctured with a needle. For unbroken swelling, apply Ruyi Jinhuang San (Ruyi Golden Yellow Powder) for washing; for broken sores, apply Hupo Gao (Amber Ointment) or Baigaoyao (White Plaster). This condition requires early ulceration/drainage; delay may lead to deep penetration through the eyelids, forming a fistula that is difficult to heal.
Prescriptions: Jingfang Baidu San (see Neck Carbuncle section); Neishu Huanglian Tang, Ruyi Jinhuang San, Tounong San (all see Swelling Ulcer section); Hupo Gao (see Head Hairline Sores section); Baigaoyao (see Ulcer section).
[Prescription Verse] Zhen Yan (Stye) appears between the eyelashes in the shape of a bean grain. Mild cases can be washed away without pus formation; severe cases involve redness, pain, and require puncture once pus matures for healing. If Wind invades after incision, swelling may develop.
[Annotation] This condition occurs between the eyelid hairs and lashes, caused by Wind-Heat in the Spleen Meridian, resembling a bean grain with a pointed tip. In mild initial cases, apply Ruyi Jinhuang San and rinse with salt water; if pus has not formed, it will subside. If Wind-Heat is severe, with redness and significant pain, rinsing fails to resolve it, indicating mature pus; puncture when ready and apply Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment). In some cases, after rupture, evil Wind invades the wound, causing facial swelling and red, gritty eyes. Externally continue rinsing; internally take Xiongpi San (Ligusticum Peel Powder) for recovery.
Prescription: Xiongpi San
Composition: Chuanxiong Rhizome (2 liang), Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel, 1 liang).
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with Chrysanthemum Tea. Externally, mix Jiefan Mo (Alum and Stibnite Powder) with egg white and apply to the swollen area. Alternatively, mix Nanxing Mo (Aricaemia Powder) with Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root) to make a paste and apply to the Taiyang Acupoint (Ex-HN5) for spontaneous resolution.
[Prescription Verse] Xiongpi San contains Chuanxiong, with half the amount of Qingpi being most effective. Taken as powder mixed with Chrysanthemum Tea, it successfully treats Styes.
Alternative Prescription: Ruyi Jinhuang San (see Swelling Ulcer section); Huanglian Gao (see Nasal Sores section).
