Translation: The syndrome of "Huge Eye Fixed Gaze" (Gu Yan Ning Jing) is characterized by protruding eyeballs, which are swollen, hard, and accompanied by unbearable pain. This condition arises from accumulated heat rushing upward to the head and pouring into the eyes. Treatment involves external application of Mofeng Gao (Wind-Rubbing Ointment) combined with bloodletting via acupuncture, and internal administration of Xiegan Tang (Liver-Draining Decoction), composed of Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chongweizi (Vernoniae Fructus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Heishen (Polygonati Rhizoma Nigrum), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma).
Formula: See Mofeng Gao at the end of the volume.
Xiegan Tang Formula
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chongweizi (Vernoniae Fructus), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Heishen (Polygonati Rhizoma Nigrum), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) in equal parts.
Grind the above herbs into a coarse powder. Add two cups of water and decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm after meals.
Annotation: [1] In the syndrome of "Huge Eye Fixed Gaze," the eyeball protrudes outward and cannot move; it is hard and elevated like the eye of a falcon (Hu), with unbearable swelling and pain.
[2] This condition is caused by accumulated heat rushing upward, wind-heat invading the brain, and stagnation pouring into the eyes.
[3] It is appropriate to first use a gold needle to prick for bleeding to drain toxicity, apply Mofeng Gao externally, and take Xiegan Tang internally.
Translation: Internal cataract due to trauma (Jingzhen Neizhang) originates from blows or shocks to the head. Brain fat and evil blood descend to damage the eyeball. The eyeball gradually becomes cloudy, forming an internal cataract, affecting both eyes and impairing vision. Treatment should involve Zhen Gan Wan (Liver-Calming Pill), composed of Shijueming (Concha Arcae), Chongweizi (Vernoniae Fructus), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Baiziren (Biota Seed), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), and Fuling (Poria); or Huanjing San (Eye-Recovery Powder), composed of Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Chongweizi (Vernoniae Fructus), and Xiongqiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
Formula: Jingzhen Zhen Gan Wan Formula
Shijueming (Concha Arcae) 1 liang, Chongweizi (Vernoniae Fructus) 1 liang, Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) 1 liang, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 1 liang, Baiziren (Biota Seed) 1 liang, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 5 qian, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 1.5 liang, Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 1 liang, Fuling (Poria) 1 liang.
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian after meals, washed down with clear tea.
Jingzhen Huanjing San Formula
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 1 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 1 qian, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 1.5 qian, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 5 fen, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 1 qian, Chongweizi (Vernoniae Fructus) 1 qian, Xiongqiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 1 qian.
Grind the above herbs into a coarse powder. Add two cups of water and decoct until one cup remains. Strain and take warm before meals.
Annotation: [1] Internal cataract due to trauma may result from accidental blows to the head, causing brain fat and evil blood to flow into the eyeball. Over time, this transforms into an internal cataract, affecting both eyes mutually and damaging vision. It is appropriate to take Zhen Gan Wan and Huanjing San.
