[Formula Song] Bi Ding (Nasal Carbuncle) arises within the nasal cavity; swelling of the nasal orifice radiates pain to the forehead. In severe cases, the lips and cheeks become edematous, caused by Fire-Toxin in the Lung Meridian affecting the area of Chan Li Gong.
[Annotation] This condition originates inside the nostrils, with swelling and obstruction of the nasal passages, distending pain radiating to the forehead, and in severe cases, edema of the lips and cheeks. It is formed by the coagulation of Fire-Toxin in the Lung Meridian. It is appropriate to administer Chansu Wan (Toad Venom Pill) to induce sweating, and then crush Chansu Wan into a fine powder and insufflate it into the nasal orifice. If the swelling becomes hard and spreads outward, apply Ligong Ding (Ligong Plaster/Paste). At the initial stage of this condition, prompt treatment is required; delay allows the Toxin Qi to attack inward, leading to coma, vomiting, and retching. Nasal swelling resembling a bottle indicates an adverse prognosis (Ni syndrome).
Formulas: Chansu Wan (see section on Ding Chuang/Carbuncles); Ligong Ding (see section on Zhongyang/Swelling Ulcers).
[Formula Song] Bi Yuan (Nasal Sinusitis) presents with turbid discharge flowing from the nose; prolonged cases involve dripping bloody fluid that is foul-smelling and fishy. This results from Gallbladder Heat transferring to the brain, combined with Wind-Cold stagnation transforming into Fire. If worms erode the brain marrow, it is named Kong Nao Sha.
[Annotation] The internal cause is Heat in the Gallbladder Meridian transferring to the brain marrow; the external cause is Wind-Cold stagnation and郁 (stagnation) transforming into Fire. Yellow turbid discharge frequently flows from the nasal orifices; Qishou Huoxiang Wan is appropriate for oral administration. If the condition persists without cure, and bloody fluid with a foul smell drips from the nose, accompanied by dizziness, deficiency vertigo, and pain, it must be due to worms eroding the brain marrow, named Kong Nao Sha. Tianluo San is appropriate for oral administration. However, prolonged illness inevitably leads to Deficiency; therefore, Buzhong Yiqi Tang should be taken concurrently for efficacy.
Formula: Qishou Huoxiang Wan
Composition: Huoxiang Lian Zhiye (Agastache with stems and leaves, 8 liang)
Grind into a fine powder, mix with bile from a male pig to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 5 qian per dose, administered after meals with Xiancao Zi Decoction (Cocklebur Seed Decoction) or washed down with yellow wine.
[Formula Song] Qishou Huoxiang Wan treats nasal discharge from Bi Yuan; turbid drip persists long without cessation. Pig bile mixed with Huoxiang powder, taken with Cocklebur Tea, cures the affliction.
Another Formula: Tianluo San
Composition: Sigua Teng (Vine of Luffa, preferably near the root, calcined to retain charred nature)
Grind into powder. Use 3 qian per dose, taken after meals with yellow wine.
[Formula Song] Tianluo treats worms eroding brain marrow causing headache; nose bleeds with foul-smelling bloody fluid. Calcined Luffa root ground to fine powder, mixed with yellow wine for ingestion, habitually kills worms.
Another Formula: Buzhong Yiqi Tang (see section on Kuiyang/Ulcerated Sores)
