According to the *Chan Jing* (Classic of Childbirth): The incantation for spreading grass mats states: "Tieyang, Tieyang, you alone are fit to be king. One word yields copper, two words yield iron. Mother and son together protect; on the left is Queen Wangmu, on the right is the Western Queen Mother. In front stands Zhuque (Vermilion Bird), behind Xuanwu (Black Tortoise). Immortals and jade maidens come here to protect me. All evil ghosts and spirits, do not approach or touch. Execute swiftly according to the law." (Recite three times.)
According to the *Zimu Milu* (Secret Record of Mother and Child): The incantation for storing water during childbirth states: "Namo Three Jewels Water. Water in the well is well water; water in the river is river water; water in the cup is cup water; water entering the abdomen is Buddha water. Know that it is not true water; do not treat false water as true. Use purity to hold turbidity, use righteousness to counter evil. Wuyishijiangjun (51 Generals including Riyue [Sun and Moon] Shasha), Qinglong (Azure Dragon), Baihu (White Tiger), Zhuque (Vermilion Bird), Xuanwu (Black Tortoise), Zhaoyao, Tiangou (Heavenly Dog), Xuanyuan, Nüyao (Female Demon) – Heaven swallows, Earth swallows; hanging corpses close the belly. Liujia (Six Jia), Liujia Jinwei (Taboos of Six Jia), Shier Shenwang (Twelve Divine Kings), Tufu Fulong – each remain in their place, do not move, do not interfere wantonly. If there is movement, if there is wanton interference, the head breaks into seven pieces, the body remains incomplete. Afani Afani, Biluomoduo Li Bodeli Shahe."
According to the *Chan Jing*: During pregnancy, from the seventh month onwards, Danshen Gao (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Paste) can frequently be taken. This prescription is found in the section for pregnant women's formulas.

According to the *Qianjin Fang*: At the onset of labor, one must first remove usual clothes and use them to cover the head and mouth tightly, ensuring ease of delivery. It is spiritually effective.
According to the *Zimu Milu*: Method for easy delivery: Carry feathers of flying birds and Feishengchong (a type of insect resembling lice eating hair, with a horn on its head).
Another formula: Carry otter skin; this is auspicious.
It also states: Ancient and modern methods ensure safe delivery by washing with hot water starting from the heart area, resulting in peace and safety.
