*Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* states: Dystocia (difficult childbirth) presents in several types. Some involve premature rupture of membranes and blood loss, leading to dryness of the uterus; some involve pre-existing diseases of the uterus; some result from violating taboos; some occur when the woman becomes agitated before the time of delivery, causing early leakage of amniotic fluid, dryness and astringency of the birth canal, and physical weakness. All these conditions can lead to dystocia. If there is abdominal pain but no lower back pain, labor has not yet begun; if both abdomen and lower back are painful simultaneously, labor is imminent.
*Chan Jing* (Classic of Childbirth) states: The causes of dystocia include failing to observe various precautions during pregnancy, offending spiritual deities, irregular diet, sorrow and worry stagnating in the chest, pathogenic factors knotting below the umbilicus, and imbalance of Yin and Yang. All these can cause difficult childbirth. Virtuous mothers should exercise caution in advance.
*Yi Men Fang* (Medical Gate Formulas) states: Prognostic signs for life or death in dystocia: If the mother's face is red and her tongue is cyanotic, the fetus is dead but the mother lives; if the lips and mouth are cyanotic with foam at the corners of the mouth, both mother and child die; if the face is red, the tongue is cyanotic, and there is foaming, the mother dies but the child lives. (*Ji Yan Fang* agrees with this view.)
It also states: If the parturient woman feels heavy-bodied with alternating chills and fever, the veins under the tongue appear dark blue-black, and she feels coldness in the womb, both mother and child will die.
The divine mantra from *Da Ji Tuo Luo Ni Jing*: "Nan Tian Gan Tuo Tian yu wo zhou ju ru yi cheng ji, Zhi Li Zhi Li, Zhi Luo Zhen Tuo Shi Zhi Luo Bo Duo Xi Po He."
Apply the above mantra to facilitate easy childbirth. Write it in cinnabar on Hu Pi (a type of bark), burn it to ash, mix with clear water, and ingest. This ensures easy delivery, endows the child with intelligence and wisdom, prolongs lifespan, and protects against madness and violent death. (This content originally appeared in the chapter "Easy Childbirth" in Volume I.)
*Zi Mi Lu* states: The mantra for preventing dystocia and labor arrest is: "Qi Li An Luo Ba Shi, Luo Ba Shi Qi Li An Luo He Sha He."
Recite the above mantra with utmost sincerity, bowing and chanting one thousand times before labor. Its efficacy is indescribable and it is commonly effective.
It also quotes: "If you seek me by form, or by sound, you walk a false path and cannot see the Tathagata."
Write the first four sentences of the above quote in ink, divide them into four talismans, measure from above the umbilicus to the heart, swallow them in water, and the infant will be delivered immediately. This has been effective.
It also states: Ancient formulas include Su Gao (Butter Ointment). For women with dystocia who have suffered for three to five days without safety, whether the fetus is transverse, longitudinal, presenting a hand, or a foot, despite hundreds of attempts, peace is not achieved. Taking this Su Gao causes the ointment on the infant's body to be expelled immediately. This formula is unparalleled. Start with half a spoonful, gradually increasing to one spoonful; excessive intake may cause vomiting.
Ingredients: Good butter (one jin), Autumn Okra Seeds (one sheng), Hua Shi (Talcum), Qu Mai (Dianthus Herb) (each one liang), Good honey (half sheng), Da Dou Huang Juan Pi (Soybean Sprout Peel) (two liang).
Process: Take the above six ingredients. First, use one sheng of clear wine to finely grind the Okra Seeds, mix into the butter, and simmer over low heat until approximately half a sheng remains. Avoid raw and cold foods; other dietary restrictions do not apply.
*Chan Jing* states: During dystocia, opening doors, windows, jars, bottles, pots, and all covered vessels is highly effective.
It also states: A prayer for dystocia: "Heaven is vast, Earth is lush, though we are subjects of the Emperor, why do you not come out? Come out quickly, come out quickly. The Heavenly Emperor is at the door, recording your name. Come out quickly, come out quickly."
Another formula: [Image] pyxf1.bmp. Write in cinnabar and ingest for good results.
Another formula: [Image] pyxf2.bmp. Burn to ash and take with water for immediate delivery.
Another formula: Take genuine Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root), hold it in the hands of the parturient woman on both sides, and delivery will occur. Another version suggests using Huai Zi (Sophora Seeds).
Another formula: Ingest Hu Ma You (Sesame Oil) for immediate delivery.
Another formula: Swallow fourteen Da Ma Zi (Cannabis Seeds) for immediate delivery.
Another formula: Place a bowstring around the waist of the parturient woman; this is effective.
Another formula: Break open soybeans, write the character "Sun" (Day) on the left piece and "Moon" on the right piece, swallow together for great auspiciousness.
Another formula: Burn the belt of the husband's trousers to powder, take with wine; this is effective.
*Ge Shi Fang* states: Swallow three soybeans.
Another formula: Swallow three Sophora seeds.
Another formula: Take three finger-pinches of soil from under Reed Roots, take with wine.
Another formula: Insert a mercury pellet the size of a bullet into the throat to block it, lift the head to let it slide down; the infant will be delivered immediately.
*Lu Yan Fang* states: Break open a soybean, write the husband's name on it, swallow together, and the infant will be delivered.
*Bo Ji An Zhong Fang* states: Take one soybean from cow dung. Write "Father Enters" on one piece and "Child Exits" on another, then swallow.
*Long Men Fang* states: Take the iron-wrapped part of a chisel handle, burn to powder, take with wine for immediate delivery.
*Duan Ju Fang* states: Cover a well with the father's clothing; the infant will be delivered, which is spiritually effective.
Another formula: Swallow fourteen wheat grains for immediate delivery.
Another formula: Take three inches of cloth used for spreading silkworm eggs, burn to powder, take one fang cun bi (square-inch scoop) with wine for immediate delivery.
Another formula: Mix one he of butter with wine and ingest for immediate delivery.
Another formula: Burn rabbit hair to powder, take one fang cun bi for immediate delivery.
*Seng Shen Fang* states: Fry pig lard and swallow a piece the size of a chicken egg (yellow); this induces delivery. If it does not work, swallow another piece.
Another formula: Take Fu Huang (Polygonatum Rhizome Powder) the size of a date, take with morning well water; this is effective.
Another formula: Take three finger-pinches of yellow earth from the stove, take with wine for immediate delivery. The earth attaches to the infant's head, facilitating exit. (Note: *Bo Ji An Zhong Fang* adds soot from the chimney flue.)
Another formula: Take three finger-pinches of Hua Shi (Talcum) powder, take with wine.
*Qian Jin Fang* states: Heat a large knife ring, splash wine onto it, collect one sheng of the liquid, and ingest to save dying patients. (*Duan Ju Fang* agrees with this.)
*Ji Yao Fang* states: Swallow two Chi Xiao Dou (Red Adzuki Beans) for the infant to be delivered holding the bean.
*Xin Lu Fang* states: Ingest fourteen Okra seeds. (Verification: *Duan Ju Fang* states: Take three finger-pinches of aged Okra seeds, take with wine.)
*Ji Yan Fang* states: Have the husband hold water in his mouth outside and spray it into the woman's mouth twenty-one times for immediate delivery.
*Jing Xin Fang* states: Grind Xiong Qiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) into powder, take one fang cun bi; this is spiritually effective.
