The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) provides a prescription for treating chronic ulcers (chronic, non-healing sores):
Take a crucian carp, split its abdomen without damaging the intestines or bladder, insert powdered white salt, suture it with a needle, and boil it to dryness in a copper vessel. Grind into powder and apply into the wound.
If there is no pus, mix with lard (pig fat) and apply; slight pain may occur, do not be alarmed.
The *Ling Li Fang* provides an external powder prescription for treating long-standing carbuncles, ulcers, and fistulas:
Hesperidum (Xiyao, 3 fen) Rhizoma et Radix Rhei (Dahuang, 3 fen) Rhizoma Belamcandae (Bailian, 3 fen) Herba Dracocephali Moldavicae (Mangcao, 2 fen)
These four ingredients are ground together and sifted. Mix well and take half a qianbi dose mixed with wine, twice daily. If ineffective, the dose may be slightly increased to one fangcunbi dose.
The *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: Huanju (Slow ulcer) arises from cold pathogen invading the meridians and collaterals, causing stagnation and obstruction of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, resulting in congestion and accumulation of Qi and Blood. When cold pathogen is severe, swelling and nodules form with deep pain, lacking distinct head or tail; large ones resemble fists, small ones resemble plums or peaches, feeling icy cold and adhering closely to the skin and flesh. With less heat, the swelling resembles muscle color, is not very red, does not suppurate after many days, and only later turns purplish-dark. The skin and flesh rot completely, resembling neck sores of cattle, gradually spreading to turn the whole body dark cyan, forming no head but instead breaking open to discharge pus. Because the nodule accumulates for a long time and tissue necrosis is slow, it is named Huanju; also called Rouseju (Flesh-colored ulcer).
The *Duanju Fang* provides a prescription for treating Huanju:
At the initial stage, it is suitable to take Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang (Five-Spice Forsythia Decoction) to remove blood stasis, apply thin layer of Adzuki bean paste, and repeatedly prick with needles to drain blood during the process. Additionally, applying Xiaoxiaoliang is also effective; if the color has not turned dark cyan, apply thin layer of Lianshi (Calcined Stone). If treatment is delayed and cannot resolve, or if already ulcerated, continue taking Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang and Loulu Tang to purge, prescribing according to the degree of heat. Externally wash with Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction) and apply Shengma Gao (Cimicifuga Ointment). If foul-smelling necrotic flesh grows, apply Bairu San (White Ru Powder) alone until all dark cyan necrotic tissue is removed. For healthy granulation tissue that is mature but not yet healed, apply Shengma Gao alone; if flesh fails to regenerate, apply Huang San (Yellow Powder) alone. If applying Bairen San and dark cyan necrotic tissue remains after many days, use Qitou Chipi Ru San (Seven-Head Red-Skin Ru Powder). Take half a qianbi dose and mix with three large qianbi doses of Bairen San, grind together, and apply sparingly. Once all necrotic tissue is removed and the area returns to purity, resume using Bairen San; observe when healthy flesh is about to grow and apply Huang San.
Bairen San, Qitou Ru San, Huang San.
All three prescriptions consist of single herbs used individually; crush and sift according to the required dosage.
