The *Bing Yuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Diseases) states: The manifestation of *Jia Ju* (Onychocryptosis with Ulceration, literally "nail carbuncle") is characterized by thickened skin around the wound and scaling, rough peeling of the nail bed. The wound also itches, causing the patient to constantly scratch it, resulting in exudate discharge. Initially, this arises from wind pathogen damaging the blood, and there are also parasites within the wound.
The *Yi Men Fang* (Medical Gate Formulas) treats *Jia Ju*, where the symptom is flesh growing at the nail margin, pain preventing the wearing of shoes (pronounced "hu jie fan"), and continuous discharge of pus and blood. Formula:
Take Shidan (Chalcanthite), roast it over fire until smoke ceases, grind into powder, and apply to the wound. It reduces pain; within three to five applications, it will surely heal. Extremely effective; preserve it carefully.
The *Sui Shi Fang* (Formulas for Every Occasion) treats *Jia Ju*: caused by trimming nails injuring the muscle, leading to ulceration, itching, spreading infiltration, and pus/blood discharge feeling like burning fire. The wound expands day and night. Even famous physicians cannot cure it, but this formula will miraculously heal it.
Lvfan (Green Vitriol) resembles Puxiao (Mirabilite), is green in color. Roast it over charcoal until boiling dry, observe when the color turns red, let it cool, select the good quality, crush and sieve into a powder. Discard coarse stones that are unusable. If suffering from the aforementioned wound, first wash cleanly with salt water, then apply Lvfan powder thickly. Wrap with cloth for one day, and the pus/water will dry up. If the wound feels dry and urgently painful, apply Su (Butter/Ghee) to moisten it. Wash once every two days, then apply thickly. When the disease is initial, the wound is small with little pus/blood, take a small amount of powder, mix with butter like soft dough, apply for one or two days, and it will heal. (This is consistent with the *Ji Yao Fang*).
The *Bing Yuan Lun* states: *Chang Yong* (Intestinal Abscess) is caused by improper regulation of cold and warmth, and excessive anger or joy. This allows pathogenic qi to interfere with Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi). Located in the intestines, aggravated by heat, Qi and Blood accumulate and condense to form an abscess. Heat accumulates and does not dissipate, causing flesh and blood to rot and transform into pus. The symptoms of this disease include slight stiffness in the lower abdomen, urination resembling strangury (dysuria), aversion to cold, rough scaling of the body skin, tightness of the abdominal skin as if swollen. Severe cases present with abdominal distension and enlargement, hearing water sounds when turning over, or sores forming around the umbilicus that rupture and discharge pus; or pus discharging from the umbilicus itself; or stool containing pus and blood. Urgent treatment is required. Additionally, stool containing pus and blood may resemble Chi Bai Xia Li (Dysentery with red and white discharge), but is actually not dysentery; this is *Chang Yong*. Sudden onset of *Chang Yong* without recognition, and incorrect treatment, can be fatal.
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states: In the disease of *Chang Yong*, the lower abdomen feels heavy, and pressing or forcing extension causes pain. Urination is frequent and resembles strangury. There is occasional sweating accompanied by aversion to cold. The body skin is rough and scaly, and the abdominal skin is tight as if swollen.
It further states: Sores like millet grains around the umbilicus, with hot skin followed by discharge of pus and blood, resembling dysentery, indicates a fatal condition. Treatment formula:
Flex both elbows, moxa directly on the sharp bone at each elbow tip for one hundred moxa cones. Then, discharging pus and blood will lead to recovery.
Another formula: Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, 4 liang), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 3 liang), Taoren (Peach Seed, 50 pieces), Donggua Ren (Winter Melon Seed, 1 sheng), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 2 liang).
These five ingredients, decocted in six sheng of water, yield one sheng. Take all at once. Pus and blood should be discharged.
The *Ji Yan Fang* (Collected Proven Formulas) treats *Chang Yong* with a Decoction:
Yiyiren (Coix Seed, 1 sheng), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 3 liang), Taoren (Peach Seed, 3 liang), Donggua Ren (Winter Melon Seed, 1 sheng).
These four items, decocted in six sheng of water, yield two sheng. Divide into two doses.
The *Fan Wang Fang* (Fan Wang's Formulas) treats *Chang Yong*:
Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, 1 jin, preferably golden-colored), Dazao (Jujube Fruit, 16 pieces).
These two items, decocted in ten dou of water, yield three sheng. Do not eat overnight before taking. After one dose, within a short time, severe burning pain will occur, and the necrotic blood of the abscess will be expelled via the stool.
The *Yi Men Fang* (Medical Gate Formulas) treats *Chang Yong*:
Ganguazi (Benincasa Seed, 1 sheng, crushed), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, separately soaked), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 3 liang each), Taoren (Peach Seed, remove tips), Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted, 2 liang each).
Decoct in seven sheng of water to yield two and a half sheng. Add Dahuang, boil for two or three more boils. Strain to remove dregs, add Mangxiao. Divide into three warm doses. Pus and blood should be discharged.
