The *Bingyuan Lun* (Treatise on the Origins and Manifestations of Diseases) states: Yang exerts its influence, and Yin transforms it; thus, conception occurs. When Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) are harmonious, they nourish the fetus for a full term, ensuring the fetus remains stable and grows normally. If Qi and Blood are deficient and damaged, the Zi Zang (Uterus) is injured by Wind-Cold, failing to nourish the fetus, which leads to recurrent miscarriages. Pregnant women who constantly suffer from lower back pain are prone to miscarriage.
The *Chan Jing* (Obstetrics Classic) records a formula for treating recurrent miscarriages:
Prepare a soup made from Da Mai Chi (Fermented Barley), consume it, and the fetus will be secured.
Another formula: Take three cun of the mother's sash, burn it into powder, and administer with wine to secure the fetus.
The *Lu Yan Fang* (Verified Records Formula) records a formula for treating recurrent miscarriages in pregnancy:
Use two jin of fresh carp and one sheng of coarse rice to make [porridge/congee], add a little salt, and eat it. Consume three times a day until childbirth.
The *Bingyuan Lun* states: When a pregnancy ends in miscarriage, the meridians are damaged, causing bleeding to persist. Excessive blood loss can lead to death.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Ge's Formula) records a formula for treating incomplete expulsion of lochia after miscarriage:
Ai Ye (Mugwort Leaf, half a jin) and Jiu (Wine, four sheng).
Boil until one sheng remains, and take it all at once.
The *Ji Yao Fang* (Essential Formula) records a formula for treating persistent bleeding after miscarriage:
Dan Shen (Salvia Root, twelve liang) and Jiu (Wine, five sheng).
Boil until three sheng remain, divide into three doses, and the bleeding will stop.
Another formula: E Jiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin, five liang, roasted) and Gan Di Huang (Dried Rehmannia Root, five liang).
Add five sheng of wine, boil until one and a half sheng remain, and take in two divided doses on an empty stomach. (Note: The *Bo Ji An Zhong Fang* uses two liang of each herb and two sheng of wine, boiled down to one sheng.)
The *Seng Shen Fang* (Monk Shen's Formula) records: Fresh Ginger, sliced, five sheng, added to eight sheng of water, boiled until three sheng remain, and taken in three divided doses.
The *Bingyuan Lun* states: This is caused by residual blood remaining after miscarriage, leading to abdominal pain.
The *Ge Shi Fang* records a formula for treating severe cramping pain in the heart and abdomen after miscarriage:
Chi (Fermented Soybean Paste, three sheng), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger, five liang), Cong Bai (Scallion White, fourteen stalks), and Jiu (Wine, six sheng).
Boil until three sheng remain, and take in three divided doses.
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Thousand Gold Formulas) records a formula for treating abdominal pain after miscarriage:
Di Huang Zhi (Rehmannia Juice, eight he) and Jiu (Wine, five he).
Boil together, and take in three divided doses.
The *Seng Shen Fang* records a formula for treating irritability and distension caused by retained blood after miscarriage:
Xiang Chi (Fragrant Fermented Soybean Paste, one and a half sheng), added to three sheng of water, boiled three times. Strain to obtain the juice, mix with Lu Jiao Mo (Deer Horn Powder, one fang cun bi), and take. Shortly after ingestion, the blood will pass, and irritability will cease. (Note: Upon verification, the *Qian Jin Fang* records Ma Jiao, one liang.)
