The *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases) states: If a child has weak muscles, they are susceptible to invasion by wind-toxic heat qi. When heat-toxin clashes with blood and qi, the skin becomes red and swollen. Since this wind follows the movement of qi and wanders without fixed location, it is named "Chi You Zhong" (Red Wandering Swelling).
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) records: Whenever a child's Chi You Zhong spreads over the body, if left untreated and the toxin enters the abdomen, death will ensue. The treatment formula is as follows:
Use Fulonggan (Furnace Earth), grind it into powder, mix with egg white, and apply to the affected area. Replace when dry.
The *Ge Shi Fang* (Formulas by Ge Hong) records: Grind glutinous rice, mix with porridge, and apply as a poultice.
Another formula: Roast rice flour, mix with saliva, and apply.
The *Hua Tuo Fang* (Formulas by Hua Tuo) states: Crush rapeseed greens (You Cai) and apply as a poultice.
The *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* also states: Generalized edema in children arises from improper nursing care, leading to deficiency in both the Kidney and Spleen organs. In cases of narrow edema, the skin is thin like a ripe pear. If the skin is invaded by wind, and wind clashes with blood and qi causing swelling, resulting only in flaccid swelling as if blown up, this is called Feng Qi Zhong (Wind-Qi Edema).
The *Chan Jing* (Maternal Classics) records: A bathing formula for infants and young children suffering from wind-stroke and generalized body swelling:
Take Xiangru (Elsholtzia Herba), boil in water to extract the juice, and use for soaking baths. This is effective.
Another formula: Boil Xiaoxiaodou (Adzuki Bean) to extract the juice, and use for soaking baths; this is very effective.
The *Qian Jin Fang* records: A formula for treating swelling of the hands, feet, and body in children:
Soak the affected areas in warm urine; this is effective.
The *Seng Shen Fang* (Formulas by Monk Shen) records: A formula for treating swelling of the hands, feet, and body in infants and young children:
Take the juice of Xianju (Pickled Vegetables), warm it, and soak the affected areas. Replace when the flavor dissipates.
The *Chan Jing* records: Shengma Tang (Cimicifugae Decoction) for treating E He Zhong (Malignant Nodule Swelling) in children, characterized by high fever approaching death:
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Yegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 1 fen), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 fen), Dingzi (Caryophylli Flos, 3 zhu).
These five herbs are sliced, boiled in 1 sheng 5 he of water until reduced to 6 he of liquid. Divide into three doses. For a one-year-old infant, administer half a he per dose. Adjust the amount of water and herbs according to the child's size. This is miraculously effective.
The *Chan Jing* records: Hai Zao Jiu (Algae Wine) for treating Luo Li (Scrofula/Neck Tuberculosis) resembling plums or dates in children:
