*Zhi Yan Fang* (Prescriptions for Treating Eyes) for treating sudden onset of corneal pannus and red-white membranes:
Take *Allii fistulosi Bulbus* (Xiebai, small-root garlic), cut with a dull knife, and apply to the lesion. Ensure even distribution so that the membrane contacts the garlic bulb. If the eye cannot tolerate the pungency, do not exceed two or three applications.
Another prescription states: For treating white membranes covering the pupil resulting in blindness:
Apply bile from a carp (*Cyprinus carpio*) onto an iron mirror surface, leave overnight until dry, then scrape off and sun-dry. Grind into powder and apply to the corneal opacity twice daily; it is miraculously effective.
*Ge Shi Fang* (Prescription by Ge) for treating ocular heat generating excessive skin growth and red-white membranes:
Take one raw bitter melon (*Momordica charantia*), remove its seeds and pulp, insert cinnabar (*Zhusha*) inside, heat over fire until boiling, filter through cotton cloth to extract juice, and apply to the eye.
Another prescription: Take fine, straight sparrow droppings, mix with human milk, apply to the membrane, which will naturally decompose and disappear.
Another prescription: Crush fresh goji berries (*Lycium barbarum*) to extract juice for washing the eyes, five to six times daily. (Same as *Ji Yan Fang*).
*Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Source Book of All Diseases and Their Prognoses) states: Polyps and excessive skin growth arise from pathogenic heat residing in the zang-fu organs, steaming towards the eyes. Heat qi affects the blood vessels, accumulating and stagnating without dispersing, condensing to form polyps.
*Ge Shi Fang* for treating meat proliferation growing long enough to nearly fill the eye socket, and the formation of pearl-like tubes:
Crush shell teeth (*Beichi*), sieve true cinnabar (*Zhusha*) through silk gauze, mix equal parts, stir and blend, then apply to the fleshy growth three to four times daily.
*Guang Li Fang* for treating chronic wind-induced redness, polyp formation, pain, and inability to open the eyes:
*Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian, 8 fen, crushed), *Jujubae Fructus* flesh (Dazao rou, 4 fen), *Phyllostachys heterocycla* leaves (Zhuye, two handfuls, chopped), Honey (Ban he).
Chop ingredients, decoct Zhuye in two large sheng of water first to obtain one large sheng. Remove Zhuye, add Dazao flesh, Huanglian, and half a he of honey. Decoct to obtain four he. Strain and discard dregs.
*Su Jing Ben Cao Zhu* (Commentary on Materia Medica by Su Jing) states: Mix sparrow droppings with colostrum from a newborn male infant to a paste consistency, instill into the eye. For pterygium with red vessels extending across the pupil, it dissipates immediately; extremely effective.
*Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states: Pearl-like tubes result from wind-heat and phlegm-fluid accumulation in the zang-fu organs, causing liver blood and qi to stagnate and surge towards the eyes, where body fluids transform and aggregate.
*Fan Wang Fang* for treating sudden onset of pearl-like tubes:
Apply honey into the eye, lie supine for a moment, fluid will exude, wipe away immediately. Wait half a day before instilling medicinal drops; raw honey is particularly good.
Another prescription: Instill bile from carp or mackerel into the eye; mixing with a small amount of cinnabar and binding is especially good.
*Qian Jin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) for treating pearl-like tubes:
*Lapis Frigidus* (Lengshi), Human fingernails/claws (Shou zhua jia), *Os Draconis* (Longgu).
Grind these three ingredients into equal parts powder. Apply with a new brush three times daily.
*Ge Shi Fang* for treating sudden onset of pearl-like tubes:
Crush roots and leaves of *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (Niuxi), extract juice to wash the eyes; instilling into the eye is also beneficial.
