The *Chanjing* (Classic of Childbirth) states: There are conditions in women under which they should not be married. These include yellow hair, black teeth, foul breath, stooping gait, improper sitting posture, large eyes with a loud voice, a tiger-like face, snake-like eyes, excessive white in the eyes relative to the black, and behavior that is licentious or deceitful toward the husband. A black mole above the yin organ indicates promiscuity; a black mole above the mouth indicates affection for another man's husband. Such women should not be married.
If the upper arm (gong, humerus) is thick while the yin organ is loose and watery, if the ribs protrude and the breasts are small, and if the hands and feet are unattractive, she will surely be poor and lowly; the husband should not marry her.
If the skin is thick, bones are strong, and the complexion is red like deep crimson (jiang), she may kill her husband; do not marry her.
If she walks like a snake or hops like a sparrow, she will fail to accumulate wealth; do not marry her.
If the tongue is short, the head and neck are stiff, and she walks like a goose, she will deceive her fiancé. If there is cold hair at the corners of the mouth resembling sideburns, the body is constantly cold, she is emaciated and prone to illness, lacks plump flesh and lustrous complexion, has hairy arms and calves, a thick neck with a prominent Adam's apple, a high nose, and high cheekbones, and her mind is not harmonious or joyful, these are all evil physiognomies. One must be cautious and not marry them. She will surely cause deception, drain vital qi, hinder or even kill the husband, and represents a physiognomy of poverty and worry.
Auspicious Physiognomy of Women:
White teeth, clear distinction between the white and black of the eyes, upright gaze, no squinting, loud voice, small and properly shaped nose; a deep and long philtrum, fragrant breath, eyebrows shaped like the character "eight" (ba), a square, flat, and full face, a black mole below the mouth, shoulders that are symmetrical and not thin; a broad tongue with a color like deep crimson (jiang) and visible texture, thin and smooth skin, abundant fatty tissue, normal body temperature, weak bones, joints that do not protrude posteriorly, long and plump hands and feet, palm lines resembling tangled silk, upright walking posture, a harmonious heart and chest, and a straight head and feet—all these are physiognomies of noble persons. Additionally, if the upper arm (gong) is thick and the yin organ is large, with the area above the yin organ high like an inverted cup, and pubic hair long, smooth, and fine. For those born through smooth delivery, a black mole on the yin organ indicates she will become the wife of a high official (earning two thousand shi). Breasts of moderate size with straight nipples, and black moles above, below, left, and right of the husband's breasts, indicate a wealthy physiognomy.
A black mole on the hand, combined with thirty-two or more teeth, is the most noble physiognomy.
If there is a pattern resembling the characters "tian" (field) or "jing" (well) on the sole of the foot, she will become the ruler of the world.
Those possessing such traits have great auspiciousness and fortune; they must be married, and one must not abandon them.

Ziwei (Catalpa Flower)
(The *Bencao* [Compendium of Materia Medica] states: Weilingxian (Clematis Root), also known as Nengxiao. The annotation says: First, opposite leaves grow on the stem of a certain grass, with light purple flowers. How can one know that Ziwei is Nengxiao? This text belongs to the Grass category. It further states in the Tree category: Ziwei is also called Lingtiao, and Buhua. Su Jing said: This is the Trumpet Vine flower (Lingxiaohua). The *Erya* states: Tiao is also called Lingming, and Weihua, etc. Is this the Wei of the Tree category? As for Weilingxian, it does not satisfy one's conviction.)
