The *Yangsheng Yaoji* (Essentials for Nourishing Life) records: Han Yuanchang from Pinchuan stated: Wine is the essence of the five grains and possesses the richest flavor. Therefore, it can benefit humans but also harm them.
Drinking in moderation can unblock and harmonize the hundred vessels (blood vessels), dispel evil pathogens, and drive away cold. However, if one drinks excessively over a long period and loses restraint, it will weaken the constitution and cloud the spirit. Among all things that interact with the body, none is more demonstrative than wine. One must be cautious not to lose restraint.
It further states: Consuming food until full and then drinking until drunk, followed by sexual intercourse before the food and wine have digested, will give rise to various diseases; within a day, it may cause children to develop Dianjia disease (a condition characterized by abdominal masses and epilepsy-like symptoms).
It also states: Eating until full and becoming drunk at night will generate various diseases. Being able to exercise caution in these matters is the subtlety of life-nourishing practices.
It further states: After becoming drunk on alcohol, do not force oneself to eat large amounts of food; unfortunately, this may trigger Ju disease (a severe purulent infection such as a carbuncle or furuncle).
It also states: When severely intoxicated, one should not lie still; instead, others should frequently shake the person's body and roll them over. Failure to do so will result in illness.
It further states: One who is drunk on alcohol should not expose themselves to wind; exposure to wind can cause aphonia (loss of voice). (Another version states one should not expose oneself to the sun.)
It also states: Applying moxibustion to the head when drunk on alcohol can be fatal.
It further states: When the heat from alcohol intoxication has not dissipated, one should not wash the face with cold water, as this may cause sores. In mild cases, it leads to skin lesions; in severe cases, it is fatal.
It also states: Sleeping on millet husks while drunk causes sweating, leading to the falling out of eyebrows and hair, which may regrow after a long time. (This occurrence is difficult and should not be readily believed.)
It further states: After heavy drinking and eating until full, one should not shout loudly, become extremely angry, or engage in vigorous activities like driving carriages or riding horses at high speed. Such actions can invert the functions of the five zang organs (Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung, Kidney) or even lead to death.
It also states: In summer, after drinking heavily until drunk and sweating, one must not wash the body with water or use a fan to draw wind, as this will cause illness.
It further states: Sleeping outdoors while drunk can cause facial sores; unfortunately, it may lead to Dian disease (Leprosy or severe skin disease).
It also states: Any sacrificial wine that diminishes spontaneously or dries up naturally should not be consumed, as it harms humans.
It further states: Sacrificial wine and meat that emit foul odors should not be consumed; they should be discarded into rivers or lakes.
It also states: Consuming too much ginger and then drinking alcohol can be fatal when intoxicated.
It further states: Eating garlic with food until full, then drinking until drunk, and failing to get up and walk around, can lead to death.
It also states: Drinking alcohol while drunk and simultaneously consuming garlic can damage the heart and lead to death.
It further states: Consuming sesame seeds and then drinking alcohol causes abdominal distension and leads to Shui disease (edema/water retention disorders).
It also states: Eating pork and then drinking alcohol, especially while sleeping on sorghum or rice husks through the night, causes yellowing of the complexion.
It further states: When drinking alcohol, one should not consume the kidneys of various wild animals, as this causes back pain disorders.
It also states: When drinking alcohol, one should not consume milk, as this leads to Qi Jie disease (diseases caused by qi stagnation).
It further states: When drinking alcohol, one should not consume raw Hu Su (coriander/cilantro), as this causes Xin Ji (heart diseases).
It also states: Consuming large amounts of Qilu (possibly referring to a specific vegetable or herb) together with alcohol can be fatal.
