Generally, dysentery arises from damp-heat accumulating internally.
Sticking in the intestines and stomach. Initially, it must occur day and night without limit. Abdominal pain and tenesmus. Thirsty and preferring cold water. Modern physicians always consider it heat-dysentery. And often administer cold-natured medicines. Allowing patients to eat fruits etc. This obstructs the damp-heat pathogen, preventing it from being released externally. Leading to the critical condition of Jin Kou Li (Jin Kou Dysentery/Anorexic Dysentery). Jin Kou refers to: cold extremities, nausea and vomiting. Food swallowed is immediately vomited out. Liquids cannot be swallowed. This method is considered difficult to treat. Only Kai Jin San (Open the Mouth Powder) can treat it, saving five out of ten cases. Contemporary doctors pretend to be elegant and archaic. Prescribing warm-hot medicines arbitrarily accounts for two out of ten. Recklessly using cold-purgative medicines while claiming safety accounts for seven or eight out of ten. Little do they know that each has its bias, failing to achieve harmony and balance (Zhong He).
