[Self-made Shenqi Decoction]
Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shu Di Huang) - 8 qian; Poria (Fu Ling) - 4 qian; Alisma Rhizoma (Ze Xie) - 4 qian; Moutan Cortex (Dan Pi) - 3 qian; Cornus Officinalis Fruit (Shan Yu Rou) - 1 qian; Chinese Yam Huai Shan Yao (Huai Shan Yao) - 2 qian; Lightly Processed Aconite Root (Dan Fu Zi) and Radish Husk (Lai Fu Ke, i.e., Raphani Semen/Caulis context implies husk here, specifically Luobo Qiao) - 2 liang (decocted in soup to replace water).
[Self-made Formula]
A general formula for treating Dampness Syndrome (Shi Zheng). Methods for modification are described later.
Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Bai Zhu) - 2 qian; Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cang Zhu) - 1 qian; White Poria (Bai Fu Ling) - 3 qian; Red Poria (Chi Fu Ling) - 3 qian; Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi) - 1 qian; Aristolochia Vine (Tian Xian Teng) - 2 qian; Tong Cao (Tong Cao) - appropriate amount.
Decoct in water and take orally.
If the pathogenic dampness is contracted from the upper body resulting in external dampness, add Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qiang Huo), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Du Huo), and Stephaniae Tetrandrae Rhizoma (Fang Ji) - each 1.5 qian. If the pathogenic dampness is contracted from the lower body resulting in internal dampness, add Chaenomelis Fructus (Mu Gua), lightly processed Aconite Root slices (Dan Fu Pian), Raw Astragali Radix (Sheng Huang Qi) - each 2 qian, and Pinelliae Tuber (Ban Xia) - 3 slices.
[Pulse Diagnosis]
The pulse of pathogenic dampness must be Deep and Slow (Chen Chi). a Full/Forceful pulse (Hong) indicates Yang Water syndrome; a Choppy pulse (Se) signifies critical illness; a Wiry pulse (Xian) indicates hyperactive Liver Wood; a Fine pulse (Xi) indicates deficiency of Yin. In early-stage disease, if a Full pulse is seen, it can be inferred that mild sweating therapy is applicable. In chronic disease, if a Full pulse is seen, the prognosis is not auspicious. If a Yin syndrome presents with a Yang pulse, treatment will surely be effective; if a Yin syndrome presents with a Yin pulse... [text cuts off].
Diseases caused by Dryness Qi are divided into Internal Injury (Nei Shang) and External Contraction (Wai Gan), and further distinguished by Upper and Lower locations. Dryness due to internal injury necessarily involves consumption of Kidney fluids internally and premature depletion of Essence and Blood. Treatment should focus on nourishing the Kidney. [Text fragments "Stomach", "After", "To", "Through" appear disjointedly, likely indicating structural errors or references to Spleen/Stomach regulation in dryness contexts].
For treating Yin Deficiency with Internal Dryness: Symptoms include red tongue, thirst, tongue pain, and dark urine.
Formula: Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shu Di Huang) - 6 qian; Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Dong, heart removed) - 4 qian; Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhi Mu) - 1 qian; Achyranthes Bidentata Root (Huai Niu Xi) - 3 qian; Raw Gypsum (Sheng Shi Gao) - 3 qian.
Decoct in water.
(This formula is referenced in Treatments of Cold Damage/Shang Han Lun).
Regardless of whether the condition occurs before or after an illness, this is suitable for cases without excess heat pathogens.
Honey-fried Licorice Root (Zhi Gan Cao) - 8 fen; Hemp Seed (Ma Ren) - 2 qian; Donkey-hide Gelatin (E Jiao) - 1 qian; Raw Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Di Huang) - 5 qian; Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Dong, heart removed) - 3 qian; Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi) - 5 fen; Asparagus Tuber (Tian Dong) - 3 qian; Raw Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Di Huang) - 8 qian; Oriental Ginseng (Dong Yang Shen) - 2 qian.
Decoct in water.
[Self-made Formula]
Generally treats Dryness Syndromes, regardless of internal injury or external contraction, and applies to various dryness syndromes such as Upper Dryness or Lower Dryness. Examples of modifications are listed below.
Raw Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Di Huang), Fresh Rehmanniae Radix (Xian Sheng Di Huang), Asparagus Tuber (Tian Dong), Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Dong, heart removed) - each 1 liang; Chrysanthemi Flos (Ju Hua), Light Bamboo Leaves (Dan Zhu Ye), Frost-treated Mulberry Leaf (Shuang Sang Ye), Pogostemon Herba (Pei Lan Ye) - each 3 qian; Raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gan Cao) - appropriate amount.
Add five Green Olives (Qing Guo), five large bowls of water, decoct until one large bowl remains. Remove dregs and drink frequently. Do not consume in large gulps, hence it is called "Yin Zi" (Drink). If cough is present... [text cuts off, implying addition of lung-moistening herbs like Reed Rhizome/Lu Gen based on fragment "Wei"].
[Pulse Diagnosis]
The pulse of Dryness-Fire shows a Full/Forceful pulse (Hong) in both Cun positions. A Full and Rapid pulse indicates exuberant external fire; a Full but weak feeling indicates floating of deficient Yang. Small and pulsating pulses in both Chi positions indicate the progression of Yin disease. A forceful pulse indicates severe condition; a Hollow (Kou) or Minute (Wei) pulse indicates slight improvement. For exterior diseases, a Floating (Fu) pulse is ideal; a pulse with Spirit (Shen) is auspicious.
