Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu), Viticis Fructus (Manjingzi), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi).
For eye pain following smallpox/variolous eruption, accompanied by red filaments and corneal opacities (Yi), this formula is indicated.
The eyes are like the sun and moon at their zenith in the sky, representing brightness; once obscured by clouds or mist, the brightness becomes dim. When wind moves across the sky, it disperses obstructions, allowing the sun and moon to shine brightly again. This formula employs wind-dispersing herbs such as Fangfeng, Jingjie, Chaihu, Baizhi, and Manjingzi to treat corneal opacities, which aligns with this principle. Additionally, Danggui, Chuanxiong, Shaoyao, and Dihuang are used...
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma) (2 qian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (1.2 qian), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Moutan Cortex (Mudanpi), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang) (each 1 qian).
For gingival gangrene (Yagan) presenting with swelling and pain, this formula is indicated.
Gingival gangrene is attributed to Stomach Heat; swelling and toxicity are attributed to Blood Heat; pain is attributed to Heart Heat. Shengma clears Stomach heat, Huanglian purges Heart heat, while Mudanpi and Shengdihuang cool the blood. Thus... Danggui...
Rhinocerotis Cornu (Shengxijiao) (ground with water, added just before consumption, 1 qian), Pruni Mume Fructus (Wumei) (1 piece), Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang) (0.2 qian), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (1 qian).
For gingival gangrene resulting from sequelae of smallpox/variolous eruption, this formula may be used alternatively.
Various pains, ulcers, sores, and itching are all attributed to Heart Fire. Therefore, Huanglian is used to purge Heart fire, and Shengxijiao to cool the Heart channel. As for Wumei, its sour taste is utilized to astringe and consolidate deficiency pathogens; whereas Muxiang, with its pungent and aromatic nature, harmonizes the Ying (Nutritive) Qi.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (1 liang), Realgar (Xionghuang) (1 qian), Chalcanthite (Danfan) (0.3 qian), Borax/Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) (0.05 qian).
For patients suffering from gingival gangrene with erosion and ulceration, grind this into powder and apply it locally.
The bitterness of Huanglian helps to firm and thicken the muscle tissue. The potent nature of Xionghuang and Danfan kills parasites. The pungency of Bingpian benefits the skin and interstices (Couli).
Alternatively, apply ash from decaying grass; or apply ash from silkworm cocoons mixed with a small amount of calcined Alum (Kufan); or apply ash from white snail shells found on walls; or apply Argo Concha (Ge Fen). These four methods all embody the principle of "drying dampness" (treating damp conditions with drying agents).
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Poria (Fuling), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Sharen), Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gange), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Leonuri Herba (Zicao), Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishaoyao).
For pregnant women suffering from smallpox/variolous eruption, this formula is indicated.
Because pregnancy combined with smallpox/variolous eruption leads to significant deficiency of Qi and Blood, Danggui, Chuanxiong, Shaoyao, and Ejiao are used to nourish the blood, while Renshen, Baizhu, Fuling, and Gancao are used to tonify Qi. Huangqin, Sharen, Zicao, and Jiegeng are employed to calm the fetus and detoxify. Chaihu, Gange, Fangfeng, Jingjie, Baizhi...
