Huangbai (Salt and Wine Fried) (Phellodendri Cortex, prepared with salt and wine), Zhimu (Salt Water Fried) (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, prepared with salt water), each four liang; Shudi (Wine Steamed) (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata); Baiguiban (Su Roasted) (Testudinis et Carapacis et Plastrum, roasted with suet), each six liang.
Mix with pig spinal cord and honey to make pills.
This formula is suitable for treating cold extremities caused by blazing Yin fire, but it must absolutely not be used for deficiency heat resulting from internal injury.
Huangbai (Wine Fried) (Phellodendri Cortex, fried with wine), two liang; Zhimu (Wine Fried) (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, fried with wine), one liang; Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), one qian.
Make honey pills.
The image of the Kan trigram consists of one Yang line residing between two Yin lines, thus ensuring that True Yang remains settled and does not move recklessly. When Kidney Water is severely deficient and unable to control Fire, the Dragon Fire surges upward, causing panting and difficulty in urination. This formula uses Zhimu and Huangbai to symbolize the two Yin lines, and Rougui to symbolize the one Yang line, still drawing upon the meaning of the Kan trigram to unblock the source of transformation and generation. Its significance is extremely refined; it is not an ordinary method of "guiding the dragon back to the sea."
Lujiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue), Lujiao Shuang (Deer Antler Frost), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen), Baiziren (Biota Seed), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata).
Grind into equal parts powder, dissolve the glue in wine to make pills. Another prescription adds Buguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus); yet another adds Lurong (Deer Antler Cornu Cum Blood), Rongzhu (Cistanches Herba), Yangqishi (Leucogypsum Fibrosum), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), and Chensha (Cinnabar).
Deer antler and Cuscuta are Yang within Yin, while Rehmannia is Yin within Yin; they are used to tonify the Kidney without bias. If燥烈 (drying and hot) substances like Yangqishi and Chensha are added, they will plunder Yin fluids and consume Qi, completely losing the original intent of the prescription.
Lujiao (Deer Antler), ten jin; Guiban (Turtle Shell), five jin; Gouqi (Lycii Fructus), two jin; Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), one jin.
First, saw and scrape clean the deer antler and turtle shell, soak in water, and boil over mulberry wood fire until they become glue; then boil Ginseng and Lycium fruit into a paste and mix them in. Take three qian orally every morning with wine.
It powerfully tonifies Qi and Blood, is neither cold nor drying, and can also benefit marrow and secure essence. It is truly the most exquisite among tonifying formulas.
Shiliuhuang (Mineral Sulfur), one jin; Zhu Dachang (Porcine Intestinum Crassum), two chi.
Grind sulfur into powder, fill it into the pig intestine, boil until soft for three shichen (6 hours), remove, peel off the intestine skin, and mix with steamed bread dough to make pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take ten pills per dose.
Sulfur alone is revered by Daoists as "Golden Liquid" because sulfur is the essence of fire and its nature is purely Yang. The *Dan Jing* states: "If even a fraction of Yin energy remains, one cannot become an immortal." Therefore, practitioners seeking to eliminate Yin and return to pure Yang must refine and take the "Yin-Eliminating Pill" to break down Yin energy. This is a Daoist alchemical formula, not a medicine for ordinary use. I have seen scholars who, having achieved success, deludedly sought immortality by refining and consuming sulfur and cinnabar at scheduled times. However, after long-term consumption, none escaped bloating, cyanotic face, bursting intestines, and death. How can one not beware? In cases of cold epidemic causing Yin collapse during sudden emergency, this medicine should be administered, yielding great efficacy...
