Treats wheezing and coughing caused by deficiency-cold, as well as soreness and pain in the lower back and feet (When the Lung is deficient and Qi is insufficient, phlegm becomes excessive leading to wheezing and coughing; when the Kidney is deficient, it leads to soreness and pain in the feet.)
Pozhuzi (Ten taels. Steamed with wine and ground into powder) Hetaorou (Twenty taels. Skin removed and pounded until soft). Mixed with honey to a consistency like maltose syrup. Take one large spoonful daily in the morning with wine; for those who cannot drink alcohol, mix with warm water. Avoid eating Yuntaie (a type of vegetable) and mutton (Yuntaie is a vegetable).
This formula acts on the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Pozhuzi belongs to Fire, enters the Pericardium and Mingmen (Gate of Life), can tonify Ministerial Fire to unblock Sovereign Fire, warm the Dantian, and strengthen Primordial Yang; Hetaorou belongs to Wood, can unblock Mingmen, benefit the Triple Burner, warm the Lung and moisten the intestines, tonify Qi and Blood, possessing the wonderful effect of Wood generating Fire. When Qi is sufficient, the Lung is not deficient or cold; when Blood is sufficient, the Kidney is not dry and withered. Long-term consumption yields great benefits, not only treating wheezing and coughing above but also strengthening the waist and feet below (Ancient saying: Huangbai without Zhimu, Pozhuzi without Hetaorou, is like a jellyfish without a shrimp. Li Shizhen said: Mingmen is located in the center between the two Kidneys, serving as the origin of life and the master of Ministerial Fire. The Kidney and Mingmen are connected, storing Essence and disliking dryness. Hetaorou resembles it in shape, with green-black skin and juice, thus entering the Northern [Kidney] channel, assisting Pozhuzi in moistening dryness and regulating Blood, allowing Essence and Qi to remain within.
Adding Duzhong (one jin) and Ginger-fried Garlic (four taels) to this formula creates Qing'e Wan: treats Kidney-deficiency lower back pain (The Classic says: The waist is the mansion of the Kidney; difficulty in turning and shifting indicates pathology).
Adding Duzhong, Huluba, Xiaohuixiang, and Bixie to this formula creates Heqi Wan: treats Xiao Chang Qi pain radiating to the waist.
Tonifies the waist and knees, strengthens sinews and bones, fortifies Yin and the Kidney, darkens beard and hair. Low cost but great efficacy.
Dongqingzi (i.e., Nvzhen Shi. Harvested on the Winter Solstice. Quantity unrestricted. Air-dried, mixed with honey and wine, steamed, left overnight, rubbed with a coarse cloth bag to remove the skin, dried and ground into powder, stored in a clay jar. Alternatively, first boiled down to a paste, then mixed with Hanlian Gao as needed) Hanliangcao (Harvested on the Summer Solstice. Quantity unrestricted. Pounded to extract juice, boiled into a paste, mixed with the aforementioned medicine to form pills).
This acts on the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Nvzhen Zi is sweet and neutral, representing the Essence of Shaoyin; it does not wither in deep winter, its color is green-black, benefiting the Liver and tonifying the Kidney; Hanlian Cao is sweet and cold, its juice is black
