(From the Hu Monk Prescription)
It can dispel wind-dampness, treat emaciation and weakness, preserve youthful appearance, darken beard and hair, prevent illness, and prolong life.
Tender Mulberry Leaf (remove stems, wash clean, dry in sun. One jin. Grind into powder) Giant Victory Seed (i.e., Black Sesame, wash clean. Four liang) White Honey (One jin.) Crush the sesame seeds, boil to make a thick juice, combine with honey, refine until it forms beads when dropped in water, add mulberry leaf powder to form pills. Another method: grind mulberry leaves into powder, steam and pound black sesame seeds, mix them in equal proportions.
This is a prescription for the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney channel and Hand-Foot Yangming channels. The mulberry tree is the essence of the Ji Star; its wood benefits joints and nourishes body fluids (therefore, when decocting medicines, mulberry wood is always used as fuel; regarding mulberry leaves... Hongjing's song says... like lacquer... can...).
(Shenling Baizhu San / Ginseng, Poria, and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder)
It treats Spleen-Stomach deficiency, indigestion, vomiting, or diarrhea. (Spleen Earth is the mother of all things; when Spleen Earth is injured, it loses its function of healthy transportation and transformation, leading to indigestion; if accompanied by Cold, there is vomiting; if accompanied by Dampness, there is loose stool. With reduced food intake, the Zang organs cannot receive Qi, leading to increasing deficiency and emaciation, and various diseases arise.)
Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome stir-fried with soil) Fu Ling (Poria) Gan Cao (Licorice Root roasted) Shan Yao (Chinese Yam stir-fried) Bian Dou (Hyacinth Bean stir-fried) Yi Ren (Coix Seed stir-fried) Lian Rou (Lotus Seed flesh, heart removed...)
This is a prescription for the Foot-Taiyin Spleen channel and Foot-Yangming Stomach channel. To treat Spleen-Stomach disorders, one merely tonifies deficiency, removes dampness, moves stagnation, and regulates Qi. Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Gan Cao [implied context: tonify Qi and strengthen Spleen]; Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit) and Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel) are agents that regulate Qi and move stagnation. However, combined with Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, and Gan Cao, they warm the Stomach and tonify the Middle Jiao (Chen Pi and Sha Ren act as tonics when combined with tonic herbs); Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), bitter and sweet, enters the Lung channel, carries other herbs upward, and connects Heavenly Qi with Earthly Dao (when Lung Qi harmonizes, Heavenly Qi descends), facilitating the ascending and descending of Qi for greater harmony.
(Wang Jinggong's Prescription)
It treats nocturnal emission during dreams, palpitations, and depression/stagnation. (The Kidney stores Essence; the Heart houses the Spirit. When pathogenic fire acts recklessly, Heart and Kidney fail to interact, resulting in excess above and deficiency below, leading to...)
Shan Yao (Chinese Yam two liang, stir-fried with ginger juice) Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) Huang Qi (Astragalus Root) Yuan Zhi (Polygala Root stir-fried) Fu Ling (Poria) Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood one liang) Jie Geng (Platycodon Root three qian) Gan Cao (Licorice Root two qian) Mu Xiang (Costus Root two qian five fen) She Xiang (Musk one qian) Chen Sha (Cinnabar two qian, separately ground into powder.) Take two qian per dose, swallow with wine.
This is a prescription for the Hand-Shaoyin Heart channel and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney channel. The Heart belongs to Ministerial Fire (Jun Huo). When Ministerial Fire moves, Adjunct Fire (Xiang Huo) follows. Adjunct Fire resides in the Liver and Gallbladder. If Kidney Yin is deficient, Essence is not stored; if Liver Yang is hyperactive, Qi is not secured (Yang here refers to pathogenic fire), causing Essence to escape and resulting in nocturnal emission. (*Zhunsheng* states: At the onset of disease, insufficiency may lie in the Heart, Lung, Spleen, or Stomach rather than the Liver or Kidney, but it must transmit to the Liver and Kidney for Essence to leak. It further states: Heart and Kidney are the organs of Water and Fire, modeling Heaven and Earth, executing the way of generation and completion, thus storing Spirit and serving as the masters of the Five Zang organs. If leakage originates from other Zang affecting the Kidney, one must examine the four extremities to find the treatment. Generally, if Essence leaks from the Heart, blood vessels are empty and roots are lax; from the Lung, skin is dry, hair is brittle, and breathing is rapid and difficult; from the Spleen, complexion is yellow, muscles waste away, and limbs are flaccid; from the Liver, sinews are flaccid and complexion is green; from the Kidney, complexion is black, marrow is empty, and bones feel heavy. Pulse diagnosis can also distinguish these. Zhu Danxi said: The Kidney governs closure and storage; the Liver governs dispersion and flow. Both contain Adjunct Fire, which connects superiorly to the Heart. The Heart is Ministerial Fire; easily stirred by external stimuli, when the Heart moves, Adjunct Fire rises vigorously. Even without sexual intercourse, Essence may secretly flow and leak. Thus, sages only teach people to gather the mind and nourish nature, a profound intent.) Shan Yao nourishes Yin and clears heat, while astringing Essence, hence it serves as the Sovereign herb; Ren Shen and Huang Qi secure Qi; Yuan Zhi and the two Fuls (Fu Ling, Fu Shen) calm the Spirit. When Spirit is calm and Qi is secure, Essence naturally remains in its place. Moreover, the two Fuls descend to promote urination, thereby draining pathogenic fire from the Kidney; Jie Geng clears the Lung and disperses stagnation; Mu Xiang soothes the Liver and harmonizes the Spleen (moving Qi soothes the Liver; when Liver Qi flows, Wood does not overact on Earth, so Spleen harmonizes); Dan Sha (Cinnabar) calms the Heart and settles the Spirit; She Xiang opens orifices and resolves depression. These two herbs also ward off evil, addressing the influence of pathogenic factors. Gan Cao is added to harmonize the Middle Jiao, acting like the Yellow Matriarch (Pi/Spleen) matchmaking between the Infant (Kidney/Yin) and the Maiden (Heart/Yang). This formula uses no astringent agents; instead, it calms the Spirit and strengthens righteous Qi, allowing Essence and Spirit-Qi to rely on each other and naturally secure themselves. Because it calms the Spirit and benefits Qi, it also treats palpitations and depression/stagnation. (Lou Quanshan stated: Examining ancient prescriptions for nocturnal emission, more than half belong to cases of stagnation/depression. Quack doctors...)
