Treats the symptom of inability to see far, while being able to see near. (Wang Haizang stated: The ability to see near is attributed to the presence of water; the inability to see far is attributed to the absence of fire. The treatment method should...)
*Zhiyuan* (*Polygalae Radix*), *Shichangpu* (*Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma*) (2 liang each), *Renshen* (*Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma*), *Fuling* (*Poria*). Honey-pilled, coated with *Zhusha* (Cinnabar). Zhang Zihe's formula omits *Shichangpu* and adds *Fushen* (Poria with Hostwood).
This is a prescription for the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. *Renshen* tonifies Heart Qi, *Shichangpu* opens the heart orifices, *Fuling* facilitates the communication of Heart Qi to the Kidney, *Zhiyuan* facilitates the communication of Kidney Qi to the Heart. *Zhusha* is red in color, clearing Liver heat and calming the Heart Spirit. The Heart belongs to the Li Fire trigram; when Fire is vigorous, vision can reach far distances.

Treats the symptom of ability to see far, but inability to see near. (Wang Haizang stated: The ability to see far is attributed to the presence of fire; the inability to see near is attributed to the absence of water. The treatment method should tonify the Kidney...)
*Shengdihuang* (*Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata*, baked), *Tian dong* (*Asparagi Radix*) (4 liang each), *Zhike* (*Aurantii Fructus*, stir-baked), *Ganjuhua* (*Chrysanthemi Flos*, calyx removed) (2 liang). Honey-pilled. Taken with tea infusion or wine (if using tea...).
This is a prescription for the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. *Shengdihuang* cools blood and generates blood, *Tian dong* moistens the Lung and nourishes the Kidney, *Zhike* expands the intestines and removes stagnation, *Ganjuhua* descends fire and dispels wind.
Treats internal cataract eye disease caused by overwork and irregular diet. (Internal cataract refers to dimness within the eyeball, appearing no different from a healthy eye externally, except for a faint bluish-white hue inside the pupil. Li Dongyuan stated: The essence and qi of the five zang and six fu organs are all derived from the Spleen and Stomach, and ascend to the eyes. The Spleen is the head of all yin meridians; the eyes are the congregation of blood and qi. Therefore, when Spleen deficiency occurs, the essence and qi of the five zang and six fu organs lose their control and cannot illuminate the eyes. The Heart is the Ministerial Fire, governing the Spirit, requiring stillness and peace, while the Assistant Fire performs its functions on its behalf. The Assistant Fire is the Pericardium, governing all vessels, which nourish the eyes. Due to overwork and movement, the fire acts recklessly; combined with pathogenic invasion, it damages the vessels, giving rise to various diseases. Physicians who fail to regulate the Spleen and Stomach and nourish blood to calm the spirit, treating only symptoms and not the root, do not understand the profound principles.)
*Huangqi* (*Astragali Radix*), *Renshen* (*Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma*) (1 liang each), *Gancao* (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*, honey-fried) (8 qian), *Baishaoyao* (*Paeoniae Radix Alba*, stir-baked), *Huangbai* (*Phellodendri Cortex*, wine-fried four times) (3 qian), *Manjingzi* (*Viticis Fructus*) (...)
This is a prescription for the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. *Renshen*, *Huangqi*, and *Gancao* greatly tonify Middle Qi to strengthen the Spleen and Stomach; *Manjingzi* raises clear Yang and unblocks the nine orifices; *Baishaoyao* enters the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and harmonizes Ying Blood (the eyes can see when nourished by blood); *Huangbai* clears damp-heat and nourishes Kidney Water (when Kidney Water is sufficient, vision is bright). This ensures sufficient essence and qi, ascending clear Yang, thereby harmonizing the zang-fu organs and resolving opacities. (Lou Quanshan stated: To treat unclear vision due to Qi deficiency without collapse, a small amount of *Lianmu* (*Coptidis Rhizoma*) and *Huangbai* may be added to *Renshen* and *Huangqi*; if Qi has collapsed, *Lianmu* and *Huangbai*...)
