Treats spontaneous sweating due to Yang deficiency.
Oyster Shell (Dried, ground) 1 qian, Ephedrae Ramulus Root (Mahuanggen) 1 qian, Floating Wheat (Fuxiaomai) 100 grains. Decoct and take orally.
These are herbs for the Hand-Taiyin Lung meridian and Hand-Shaoyin Heart meridian. Chen Laizhang said: Sweat is the fluid of the Heart; if there is Fire in the Heart, sweating will not stop. The salty and cool nature of Oyster Shell and Floating Wheat removes irritability and heat to stop sweating; Yang Qi is the protective shield of Yin Qi; when Yang Qi is deficient, the exterior defense is not solid. The sweet and warm nature of Astragalus Root (Huangqi) and Ephedrae Ramulus Root moves to the muscle surface to consolidate the defensive Qi.
Treats night sweating due to Yin deficiency.
Biota Seed (Baiziren) (stir-fried, ground, oil removed), Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Pinelliae Tuber (Banxia), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), Oyster Shell (Muli), Ephedrae Ramulus Root (Mahuanggen) (each 1 liang), Wheat Bran (Maifujia) 5 qian.
These are herbs for the Hand-Foot Taiyin Lung-Spleen meridians and Hand-Foot Shaoyin Heart-Kidney meridians. Chen Laizhang said: When Heart Blood is deficient, sweating occurs during sleep. The sweet, pungent, and neutral nature of Biota Seed nourishes the Heart and calms the Spirit, serving as the Sovereign herb; the salty and cool nature of Oyster Shell and Wheat Bran calms restlessness and astringes leakage, serving as the Minister herbs; Schisandra is sour and astringent, Pinellia harmonizes the Stomach and dries Dampness, serving as the Assistant herbs (Dampness can cause sweating).
(From *Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang*)
Treats spermatorrhea, white turbidity, and excessive thirst with priapism (The Heart and Kidney are the viscera of Water and Fire, following the principles of Heaven bestowing life and Earth generating it. If the Heart Spirit is injured, Fire moves; if Fire moves incessantly, it injures Kidney Water. The Kidney governs storing Essence; the Essence transported from the Five Zang and Six Fu organs cannot be stored and leaks out frequently, thus causing spermatorrhea and nocturnal emissions. Dai Shi said: Sexual excess belongs to deficiency... Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi) 10 liang, Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) 8 liang, Nelumbinis Plumula (Shilianrou), Poria (Fuling) 3 liang, Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao) 6 liang. Soak Cuscuta in wine... If thirsty, take with rice water.)
These are herbs for the Hand-Foot Shaoyin Heart-Kidney meridians. Cuscuta is acrid, sweet, and balanced; it strengthens Yin and benefits Yang, treating spermatorrhea caused by cold Essence. Schisandra nourishes the Kidney and generates fluids; Nelumbo plumule clears the Heart and stops... benefiting while purging Kidney pathogenic factors.
Treats damp-heat in the Stomach penetrating into the Bladder, causing continuous lower turbidity (Lin syndrome occurs at the urinary orifice, belonging to the Liver and Gallbladder regions; Zhuo syndrome occurs at the essence orifice, belonging to the Kidney and Bladder regions. It may be caused by damp-heat or deficiency-cold; generally, heat patterns are more common than cold patterns. Red indicates Blood involvement, White indicates Qi involvement. It may also be caused by seminal residue and blood stasis obstructing the orifices, causing pain... Lotus Stamens (Lianxu), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (stir-fried, 2 liang), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus (Yizhiren), Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Sharen), Pinelliae Tuber (Banxia) (prepared with ginger), Poria (Fuling) 1 liang, Polyporus (Zhuling) 2 liang.)
These are herbs for the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney meridian, Foot-Taiyang Bladder meridian, and Foot-Taiyin Spleen meridian. Essence turbidity is mostly caused by damp-heat and phlegm. Coptis drains Heart Fire, Phellodendron drains Kidney Fire, thereby clearing heat; ... both to disperse stagnant Qi and slightly mitigate the coldness of Coptis and Phellodendron; Licorice Root (Gancao) harmonizes the Middle and tonifies Earth; only Lotus Stamens' astringency is used to secure leakage (Zhu Danxi said: *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* states that white turbidity is due to overwork injuring the Kidney, resulting in Kidney Qi deficiency and cold. Generations of physicians have followed this view, failing to clarify the principle of white turbidity... Exogenous pathogens overcoming正气... Cold implies clarity, which can be said to elucidate the Sage's intent and correct a millennium of error. I once heard my teacher discuss that red and white turbidity are mostly caused by damp-heat flowing downward into the Bladder, as stated in *Ling Shu*: "When Middle Qi is insufficient, urination and defecation become abnormal." One must first tonify Middle Qi to raise it, then treat according to the Zang-Fu, Qi-Blood, red-white, and deficiency-excess distinctions. For other injuries by pathogenic heat, clearing heat and tonifying deficiency is indeed appropriate. However, if Kidney Qi is extremely deficient or Fire is hyperactive, one should not overuse cold-cooling agents but must use counter-assistance therapy, relying on weighing the severity. Ye Shi said: Spermatorrhea and sliding are often treated as Kidney deficiency, and astringent tonification fails; this is unknown because it is caused by damp-heat of the Spleen and Stomach invading. People who drink alcohol and eat rich flavors with phlegm-fire often have this disease. Although the Kidney stores Essence, Essence originates from the transformation and transportation of food and drink by the Spleen and Stomach and is transported to the Kidney. If the Spleen and Stomach are injured, damp-heat stagnates internally, confusing the Middle Qi so it is no longer clear, then what is transported is all turbid Qi. Evil Fire disturbs, Water cannot remain quiet, thus causing spermatorrhea and sliding)."
