*Jinkui Yaolue* Xiaobanxia Tang (Minor Pinellia Decoction) (Formula seen in Thirst and Diabetes Section; formula discussion both seen in previous text)
*Jinkui Yaolue* Dahuang Xiaoshi Tang (Rhubarb and Niter Decoction): Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas); each four liang; Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) fifteen pieces. The above four herbs, with six sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng of liquid, remove dregs, add Xiaoshi, decoct again to obtain one sheng, take all at once.
*Jinkui Yaolue* Zhizi Dahuang Tang (Gardenia and Rhubarb Decoction): Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) fourteen pieces; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) one liang; Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) five pieces; Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean) or Douchi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) one sheng. The above four herbs, with six sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng of liquid, divide into three warm doses.
*Jinkui Yaolue* Yinchen Hao Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba Decoction) (The combination of the previous three formulas discussed previously.): Yinchen Hao (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) six liang; Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) fourteen pieces; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) two liang. The above three herbs, with one dou of water, first decoct Yinchen Hao until the water reduces by six sheng, then add the other two herbs, decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid, remove dregs, divide into three warm doses. Urination should be unobstructed, urine resembling the juice of soap pods with a deep red color; after one night, abdominal distension decreases, and the jaundice is expelled through urination. Commentary: There are many indications for using purgation in Jaundice (Huangdan). For example, in Wine Jaundice (Jiu Dan - jaundice caused by excessive alcohol consumption) with abdominal fullness, black nose tip, and deep-string pulse, purgation should be used first. In Disease Jaundice (Bing Dan - jaundice caused by mismanagement or external contraction) where fire therapy was forcedly applied to induce sweating, causing internal and external heat to steam dampness, resulting in whole-body fever, facial and abdominal heat, with heat in the interior, purgation should be used. The former formula, Dahuang Xiaoshi Tang, is a heavy agent treating severe cases where pathogenic heat is internally bound and involves the Bladder. The middle formula treats internal binding of wine-heat and exterior muscle-surface heat binding, a lower-grade purgative. The latter formula treats Grain Jaundice (Gu Dan - jaundice caused by improper diet) with blood-stasis heat in the interior, appearing as exterior excess but not exterior heat, a lower-grade purgative. Scholars comparing and contemplating these formulas will clearly understand the flexible use of purgation.
*Jinkui Yaolue* Yinchen Wuling San (Artemisiae Scopariae and Five-Ingredient Poria Powder): Moistens dryness-heat in the Qi level. Yinchen Hao Mo (Powder of Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) ten parts; Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Poria Powder) five parts (Formula seen in Phlegm-Fluids Section). Mix the above two ingredients evenly, take one cun spoon before meals, three times daily.
*Jinkui Yaolue* Zhigao Fa Jian (Pork Fat and Hair Decoction): Moistens dryness-heat in the Blood level. Zhigao (Suis Medulla) half jin; Luafa (Human Hair) three pieces the size of a chicken egg. The above two ingredients, decoct in the pork fat until the hair dissolves and the medicine is ready. Divide into two doses; the pathogen exits via urination. Commentary: These two formulas, one treats dryness-heat in the Qi level, the other treats dryness-heat in the Blood level; formula discussion seen in previous text.
Xiaoshi Fanshi San (Niter and Alum Powder): Treats Female Labor Jaundice (Nü Lao Dan - jaundice caused by sexual exhaustion). Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas); Fanshi (Alumen) roasted in equal parts.
Mahuang Chunjiu Tang (Ephedra and Mellow Wine Decoction): Treats Exterior Excess Jaundice. Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) three liang. The above single herb, with five sheng of clear mellow wine, decoct to obtain two and a half sheng of liquid, take all at once. In winter use wine, in spring use water for decoction.
Yinchen Fuzi Ganjiang Gancao Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae, Aconite, Dried Ginger, and Licorice Decoction): Treats Yin Jaundice (Yin Huang), also known as Yinchen Sini Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae and Four-Reversal Decoction); also treats yellowing with deep-thin-slow pulse, cold limbs, and spontaneous sweating above the waist. Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) two liang; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) prepared one and a half liang; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) one piece, cut into eight slices, prepared; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) honey-fried one liang. Grind into coarse powder, divide into four doses, decoct with water and take.
Xiao Yinchen Tang (Minor Artemisiae Scopariae Decoction): Treats yellowing with deep-thin-slow pulse, cold limbs and whole body. Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) two liang; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) one piece, cut into eight slices, prepared; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) honey-fried one liang. Grind into coarse powder, use two sheng of water, decoct to obtain one sheng, take warm, divided into three doses.
Yinchen Fuzi Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae and Aconite Decoction): Treats cases where, after taking Sini Tang (Four-Reversal Decoction), there is continuous cold sweat. Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) one and a half liang; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) two pieces, each cut into eight slices, prepared; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) prepared two and a half liang. Grind into coarse powder, decoct with water, divide into three doses.
Yinchen Zhuyu Tang (Artemisiae Scopariae and Evodia Decoction): Treats cases where, after taking Yinchen Fuzi Tang, symptoms have not receded, and the pulse is hidden. Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus) one liang; Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) three liang; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) two pieces, each cut into eight slices, prepared; Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) one liang; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) prepared; Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) each one and a half liang. Grind into coarse powder, divide into two doses, decoct with water.
Han Shi Yinchen Jupi Tang (Mr. Han's Artemisiae Scopariae and Tangerine Peel Decoction): Treats yellow body with deep-thin-rapid pulse, body heat but cold hands and feet, wheezing, vomiting, irritability, and no thirst. Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) each one liang; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) one liang; Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria) each half liang. Grind into powder, use four sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng, take warm at once, divide into four doses. Commentary: This belongs to the Foot-Taiyin (Spleen) syndrome, slightly involving the Foot-Yangming (Stomach).
Han Shi Yinchen Fuling Tang (Mr. Han's Artemisiae Scopariae and Poria Decoction): Treats yellowing with deep-thin-rapid pulse, cold limbs, difficult urination, irritability, and thirst. Fuling (Poria), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Zhuling (Polyporus) each one liang; Huashi (Talcum) one and a half liang; Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) one liang. Grind into powder, take half liang per dose, decoct with water; if the pulse has not emerged, add Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix).
Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou Tang (Ephedra, Forsythia, and Adzuki Bean Decoction): Treats persistent body heat, blood-stasis heat in the interior, yellowing, and slight urination. Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) each one liang; Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean) one ge. Chop, make one dose, decoct with water.
Didang Tang (Thrusting Down Decoction): Treats Taiyang Cold Damage with headache and body heat, which should be resolved by sweating, but instead diuresis was induced, leading to heat-blood stasis in the Bladder, resulting in yellow body, deep pulse, hard lower abdomen, free urination, and manic behavior, indicating blood stasis in the Lower Jiao; this Decoction is indicated. Shizhi (Hirudo), Mengchong (Ophiorrhizae Rhizoma or similar insect) each ten pieces; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) one liang; Taoren (Persicae Semen) twelve grains. Chop, make one dose, decoct with water, take before meals; for mild cases, use Tao Ren Cheng Qi Tang (Peach Kernel and Magnolia Bark Decoction). Commentary: The Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou Tang is Zhang Zhongjing's formula for Yellowing due to Cold Damage with heat-stasis in the exterior. This formula is Zhang Zhongjing's for Yellowing due to Cold Damage with heat-stasis in the interior and blood accumulation in the Lower Jiao. Recording it shows that miscellaneous diseases should be treated by analogy; if the pulse and syndrome are the same, the medication will be appropriate and divine.
Banxia Tang (Pinellia Decoction): Treats Wine Jaundice with yellow body but no heat, clear speech, abdominal fullness with desire to vomit, heart irritability, hot feet, possibly masses, mental restlessness, with deep-string or tight-thin pulse. Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each three liang; Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix) stir-fried each two liang; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) each one liang. Chop, take four qian per dose, decoct with water, add three slices of ginger, take on an empty stomach. According to *Jinkui Yaolue*: In Wine Yellow Jaundice, if there is no heat, clear speech, abdominal fullness with desire to vomit, dry nose, and floating pulse, induce vomiting first; if the pulse is deep-string, purge first. Teaching people to observe pulse and differentiate syndrome to prioritize treatment makes the intent clear; no need to provide a formula. Later generations imitated this, mixing in other syndromes and pulses, truly like talking in dreams.
Huopi Yin (Dai's Formula): Treats Wine Jaundice. Huoxiang Ye (Agastaches Folium), Pipa Ye (Eriobotryae Folium) de-haired, Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Chen Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium aged), Gange (Puerariae Radix), Bai Fuling (Poria) equal parts. The above seven herbs, decoct with water, take with Jiujuzhu Huanglian Wan (Wine-boiled Coptis Pill).
Zhizi Dahuang Tang (Gardenia and Rhubarb Decoction): Treats Wine Jaundice with mental restlessness or painful heat. Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) fourteen pieces; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) one liang; Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) five pieces; Douchi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) one sheng. The above four herbs, with six sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng of liquid, divide into three warm doses.
Baizhu Tang (*Sanyin Fang*): Treats Wine Jaundice that, after purgation, turns into Black Jaundice, with blue eyes and black face, sensation in the heart like eating garlic/mustard, black stool, insensible skin, and thin-rapid pulse. Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) each one qian; Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) bran-fried; Douchi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum), Gange (Puerariae Radix), Xingren (Pruni Semen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) honey-fried each five fen. The above seven herbs, chop, use one zhong of water, decoct to seven-tenths, take before meals. Commentary: Chen Wuyue imitated *Jinkui Yaolue*'s purgation for Wine Jaundice, creating this formula based on the full text of long-term purgation turning into Black Jaundice, only considering wine-heat, completely missing the point. Did he not know that Ying and Wei Qi, due to prolonged purgation, sink and cannot ascend/distribute, leading to stagnation throughout the body? Consequently, the blood throughout the body becomes stagnant, dark, and turns black. One must first restore Ying and Wei Qi, allowing them to transport and resolve the stagnant darkness, before it can be considered treatable. Although Chen Wuyue is a sage, he did not deeply investigate this principle; what hope is there for others!
Jiuzhu Huanglian Wan (Wine-boiled Coptis Pill): Treats Wine Jaundice. (Formula seen in Three Qi Section)
Jiawei Sijunzi Tang (Modified Four Gentlemen Decoction): Treats Color Jaundice. Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Bai Fuling (Poria), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Baibian Dou (Lablab Semen Album) stir-fried each three qian; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) honey-fried one qian. Two zhongs of water, five slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), two Hongzao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus), decoct to one zhong, take at any time.
Shen Dan Tang (Kidney Jaundice Decoction): Treats Kidney Jaundice with yellow eyes, golden body, and red-difficult urination. Shengmageng (Polygoni Multiflori Caulis or similar root) half liang; Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Fangfenggen (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Duhuogen (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Qianghuogen (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Gegen (Puerariae Radix) each half qian; Bai Fuling (Poria), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Gancaogen (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each three fen; Huangbo (Phellodendri Cortex) two fen; Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) each six fen. Divide into two doses, decoct with water, take slightly warm before meals. Commentary: Li Dongyuan's formulation of this formula aims solely to dissipate kidney stasis-heat and transmit it to the Bladder Fu organ, allowing exterior-interior dispersion. Ultimately, the exterior-releasing roots used are light and weak, unable to penetrate deeply or break through stubborn stasis-heat. Despite good intentions, it is merely a helpless formula. If doctors do not follow Zhang Zhongjing, can they avoid standing face-to-face with a wall (ignorance)?

Shilianrou (Nelumbinis Nuciferae Plumula) two liang; Bai Fushen (Poria cum Radix) steamed one liang; Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen) wine-soaked and ground five liang; Huaishanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) two liang plus small amount made into paste. If legs/knees are weak, take with Mugua Tang (Papaya Decoction), take again before evening meal. Commentary: Later generations' formulas always exaggerate efficacy to please users. Such a formula stands beyond blame, sounding pleasing; why not?
Cui Shi Bawei Wan (Dr. Cui's Eight-Ingredient Pill): Treats Female Labor Jaundice. (Formula seen in Volume 2, Cold Section)
Huashi San (Talcum Powder): Treats Female Labor Jaundice. (For detailed discrimination of errors, read carefully with previous discussion.) Huashi (Talcum) one and a half liang; Baifan (Alumen) calcined one liang. Grind into fine powder, take two qian per dose, mix with barley porridge broth before meals, stop when yellow water appears in urine. Commentary: This formula is exactly the Xiaoshi Fanshi San from *Jinkui Yaolue*. Later generations did not understand the use of Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas), arrogantly changed the herb and name; a specific discussion was provided earlier. Here we re-expose the profound meaning of *Jinkui Yaolue*'s formulation. Shaoyin (Kidney) governs the interior; essence and blood of the whole body belong to its control. Although blood transforms in the Spleen, generates in the Heart, and stores in the Liver, if the Shaoyin Kidney governing the interior is diseased, the Spleen cannot transform blood, the Heart cannot generate blood, and the Liver cannot store blood. Ying and Wei circulation slows, body fluids become敗结 (stagnant/coagulated), leading to Dry Blood Labor (Ganxue Lao) and Female Labor Jaundice. Unless the stagnation is urgently removed, new blood cannot generate, and the person will die! The original formula uses Xiaoshi (Natrii Sulfas) salty-cold to strengthen Water (Kidney) and drive out damp-heat stasis in the intestines/stomach, pushing out the old and bringing in the new. Combined with Fanshi (Alumen) to remove solidified heat in the bone marrow, achieving great merit in resolving stasis and clearing turbidity. Barley porridge acts as a guide to enter the intestines/stomach, allowing blood stasis to exit via the two yin orifices. Stool belongs to Yin, color black; urine belongs to Yang, color yellow; this can be verified mutually. Ignorant later people replaced Xiaoshi with Huashi (Talcum), only checking for yellow urine, ignoring black stool; extremely crude. Chen Wuyue flattered this view, hesitating between the two formulas; an outsider, not worth blaming. Are those satisfied with minor achievements in ancient and modern times only Chen Wuyue!
Fuling Shenshi Tang (Poria and Dampness-Percolating Decoction): Treats Jaundice with chills/fever, vomiting, thirst for water, yellow body and face, difficult urination, complete loss of appetite, inability to lie down. Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) seven fen; Bai Fuling (Poria) six fen; Mu Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) soaked in rice water overnight and stir-fried; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) each five fen; Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) stir-fried; Qinjiao (Gentianae Radix), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Gegen (Puerariae Radix) each four fen. Two zhongs of water, decoct to seven-tenths, take before meals. Commentary: The symptoms listed below the formula are all due to pathogenic heat congesting the Stomach; although there is no appetite, it is false deficiency, not true deficiency, so it can be used to disperse pathogen and resolve heat.
Shenzhu Jianpi Tang (Ginseng and Atractylodes Spleen-Strengthening Decoction): Treats prolonged yellowing with weak Spleen/Stomach and poor appetite. Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each one and a half qian; Bai Fuling (Poria), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) stir-baked, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) each one qian; Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma honey-fried) seven fen. Two zhongs of water, two dates, decoct to eight-tenths, take before meals. For Color Jaundice, add Huangqi (Astragali Radix) and Baibian Dou (Lablab Semen Album) stir-fried, each one qian. Commentary: This formula is set for weak Middle Qi; thus it does not treat Jaundice directly but tonifies the Middle. It is worlds apart from the previous formula, so keep both for selection.
Danggui Qinjiao San (Angelica and Gentian Powder): Treats Five Jaundices with bland taste, dry throat, fatigue, fever, and slight chills. Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Qinjiao (Gentianae Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) wine-steamed, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) each one qian; Banxia Qu (Pinelliae Rhizoma fermented), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma honey-fried) each five fen. Commentary: This formula treats Blood deficiency with heat entering the Blood level, distinct from the previous Middle Qi deficiency requiring Qi tonification; recorded here for reference. For Deficiency Labor syndromes, use Shenyang Rong Tang (Tonifying Qi and Nourishing Blood Decoction).
Huanglian San (Coptis Powder): Treats Jaundice with constipation of both bowels and difficult urination, accumulated heat. Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) one liang; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) vinegar-fried two liang; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) honey-fried each one liang. Grind into very fine powder, take two qian mixed with warm water after meals, three times daily. First use Gouti San (Melon Seed Powder) insufflated into the nose to discharge yellow fluid, then take this medicine. Commentary: Rough country people often have Excess syndromes; this medicine can be used. However, even if refined individuals have excess heat, this formula should not be used; take this as a warning.

Qinjiao (Gentianae Radix) one liang; Xuanfuhua (Inulae Flos), Chi Fuling (Poria with Red Wood), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma honey-fried) each five qian. Chop, take four qian per dose, decoct with one cup of cow's milk to six-tenths, remove dregs, take warm at any time. Commentary: This formula treats Yin Jaundice on the face due to Stomach fluid deficiency and Yang collapse; the syndrome is distinctly different from the previous formula, so both are recorded for reference. However, the pulse for this syndrome must be weak-hidden-knotted; Yang collapse here refers to fluid collapse.
Treating Yin Jaundice with sweat staining clothes yellow, snot/spittle yellow: Use Manjingzi (Brassicae Napus Semen) ground into powder, take one spoon with well water at dawn, increase to two spoons daily, stopping when effective. Soak a small piece of cloth in urine every night, record days in a book; when color gradually fades to white, it heals, usually cured within five sheng. Two zhongs of water, three slices of ginger, one red date, decoct to one zhong, take before meals. Commentary: This formula treats liver-blood and lung-qi intersecting heat; a light agent can reduce fever.
Qinglong San (Azure Dragon Powder): Treats wind-pathogen transformation, abdominal stasis, yellow face/eyes, trapped wind-pathogen causing internal heat, irritability, thirst, and drinking.
