Prescription for treating carbuncles and sores (Yongju), hemorrhoids, malignant ulcers, and women's engorged breast abscesses (Dulu Chuang):
*Radix Polygoni Multiflori* (Yege), *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (Shaoyao), *Bulbus Allii Macrostemonis* (Xiebai), *Herba Tetrasperi* (Tongcao) (each 0.5 liang), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Danggui) (3 fen), *Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata* (Fuzi) (1 fen).
The above six herbs are cut into pieces and soaked in vinegar for half a day. First, render 8 he of lard until smoke rises, add 0.5 liang of human hair, and dissolve completely. Then add the herbs and heat to boiling. Perform "three ups and three downs" (boil, remove from heat, reheat, repeat three times), filter out the dregs, and cool. Clean the affected area with an old cloth to remove dirt. Apply the ointment.
Another prescription:
Boil *Radix Rehmanniae Preparata* juice until it becomes like glue, form into cakes, and apply to the lesion. Change four times a day; it heals in three days. (*Qianjin Fang* notes: it eliminates necrotic flesh.)
Prescription for treating swelling and carbuncles:
*Radix Cissampi* (Zige) (2.5 liang), *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (Dahuang) (5 fen), *Rhizoma Belamcandae* (Bailian), *Radix Scrophulariae* (Xuanshen), *Rhizoma Coptidis* (Huanglian), *Radix Scutellariae* (Huangqin), *Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae* (Youba), *Radix Cimicifugae* (Shengma), *Cortex Ulmi* (Yu Baipi) (each 3 fen).
The above eleven herbs are crushed, sifted into a powder, and mixed with fresh *Radix Rehmanniae* juice to form a paste for application. Replace when dry. Mixing with strong vinegar is also acceptable.
Prescription for treating chronic non-healing carbuncles and sores:
*Resina Pini* (Songzhi), *Olibanum* (Xunluxiang / Ru Xiang).
The above two ingredients are divided equally, crushed, mixed with a little salt to form cakes, and applied to the sore. Once foul discharge ceases, healing occurs.
Prescription for treating various acute swellings:
Take fine powder of *Sinapis Semen* (Jiezi), mix with pig bile to form a paste, and apply to the diseased area three times daily.
Prescription for applying *Mylabris* seeds to seal carbuncles and swellings:
Take one sheng of *Mylabris Semen* (Wuqingzi), crush into fine powder, mix with abundant vinegar to form a paste, and apply as a compress. Replace when dry. *Sinapis Semen* powder is also highly effective.
Another prescription:
Half a sheng of *Sophorae Fructus* (Huai Zi), one handful of *Herba Siegesbeckiae* (Shenhuo Cao), crushed finely, mixed with water and applied.
Another prescription:
Crush *Herba Leonuri* (Weichu) to extract juice, ingest the amount equivalent to one chicken egg, and apply the dregs to the carbuncle. Replace when cooled; this is particularly effective for facial and head swelling.
Prescription for using *Bulbus Allii Fistulosi* (Congbai) to treat carbuncles and sores with multiple openings that have not healed for years:
One jin of *Bulbus Allii Fistulosi*, finely chopped and crushed into a paste. Thoroughly wash and dry the sore, then apply the paste as a thick layer (one fen thickness). Apply three times daily and once at night, until healed.
Eight-Ingredient Huangqi Thin Plaster:

The above eight herbs are made into a powder, mixed with egg white to form a paste, spread on cloth, and applied thinly according to the size of the swelling. Replace when dry. If there are openings in the sore, allow the pathogenic qi to vent.
Decoction Compress for treating initial stage of erysipelas and carbuncles with fever spreading, and contraindicated near the genitals in pediatric erysipelas:
*Radix Cimicifugae* (Shengma), *Rhizoma Coptidis* (Huanglian), *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (Dahuang), *Radix Chuanxiong* (Xiong), *Cornu Saigae Tataricae* (Lingyangjiao), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Danggui), *Radix Glycyrrhizae* (Gancao) (each 2 liang), *Radix Scutellariae* (Huangqin) (3 liang).
The above eight herbs are boiled in ten dou of water to obtain five sheng. Filter out the dregs, return the liquid to the pot, add 3 liang of *Natrii Sulfas* (Mangxiao), boil once over fire, then use a cloth to compress the swollen area repeatedly. The swelling and heat will subside immediately. This was a secret formula passed down by Wang Lian and Gan Xiu.

Another prescription:
For any carbuncle, take equal parts of dust from roof beams and stems of *Abelmoschus Manihot* (Kui Jing), mix with vinegar, and apply. Replace when dry.
Prescription for treating Stone Carbuncle (hard as stone, without suppuration):
Apply fresh *Radix Phytolaccae* (Shanglu) root attached to soft cloth to the area, changing frequently. Alternatively, crush and apply directly; replace when dry. The carbuncle will dissipate and soften.
