The above four herbs are coarsely crushed, soaked in five sheng of wine overnight, then two sheng of water is added. Decoct to obtain three sheng and one he, divided into three doses. Observe dietary restrictions as per general medicinal guidelines.
Another formula:
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, 大黄) [soaked separately], Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) [each 2 liang, honey-fried].
The above three herbs are coarsely crushed, decocted in five sheng of water until two sheng remains. Take warm, divided into doses.
Puxiao Pill Formula for treating heat from minerals/metals and various heat syndromes:
Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao, 朴硝) [refined, 1 jin].
The above single herb is ground into powder, mixed with white honey to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. After each meal, take thirty pills with honey-water. If one has been ingesting mineral substances for a year and feels slight internal heat, take these pills to suppress it. Before going to bed at night, take thirty to forty pills. The dosage should be adjusted until a cooling sensation is felt in the chest and diaphragm. This method is extremely effective. If an acute attack occurs, take one large spoonful of powder mixed with water on an empty stomach. One or two bowel movements will lead to recovery. If no movement occurs, continue taking until bowel movement is achieved. For Puxiao, choose that which has not been exposed to wind; yellow ones are fatal, red ones are harmful, and white ones are best.
Another formula: Treats both cold and heat types of Stone Fever, primarily for severe constipation:
Take Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao, 朴硝) boiled in Abutiloni Semen juice (Kuifanzi zhi, 葵子汁), half a tael and a half. Natrii Sulfas with sharp crystals can also treat sudden red eye; take with water, adjusting dose for children.
