The etiology of this syndrome lies in the cessation of menstruation before its normal duration has elapsed. Due to excessive dietary intake, the Qi of the five grains becomes excessive and overflows into other Zang-Fu organs. Blood descends into the intestines and stomach, stagnating without dispersing. Internal cold and heat combine with the residual menstrual blood, giving rise to Xue Jia (Blood Mass, a mass formed by blood stasis). The manifestations include lower back pain preventing flexion or extension, accumulation of Qi under the flanks feeling hard as stone, pain throughout the lower abdomen, back, spine, waist, and thighs, a sensation in the vagina as if bearing a fetus, irregular menstruation, and infertility. Treatment employs: Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) and Wou Mei Gu (Cuttlefish Bone, roasted) each 1 liang; Tao Ren (Peach Seed, peeled and crushed, roasted) 1 liang. These are pulverized into powder. Administer two Fang Cun Bi (a traditional Chinese volume measure for powder) with wine, twice daily. Additionally, apply externally: Da Huang (Rhubarb Root), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) each 0.5 fen; Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus Fruit), Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Sinensis Pod, peeled, seeded, and roasted) each 1 liang; Xi Xin (Asarum), Rong Yan (Rock Salt) each 26 zhu. Pulverize these, mix with aromatic balm to form pills the size of a finger, wrap in silk, and insert vaginally. Maintain an upright sitting posture for a long time until the mass is expelled. Post-treatment care should follow the regimen for postpartum women.
The etiology of this syndrome arises when intercourse occurs while menstruation has just begun or within thirty days, before the body has fully recovered, resulting in Zhi Jia (Fat Mass, a mass formed by fatty tissue accumulation). Manifestations include swelling, fullness, pain, and bi-syndrome (numbness and pain) in the four limbs; stabbing pain in the lower back and abdomen; severe abdominal cutting pain; occasional dizziness; irregular menstruation; continuous bleeding from both stool and urine; and infertility. Treatment employs: Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Sinensis Pod, peeled and seeded) 18 zhu; Fan Zi (Alumen, calcined) 6 zhu; Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Fruit), Shu Jiao (Sichuan Pepper), Xi Xin (Asarum), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) each 0.5 liang. Pulverize these, mix with aromatic balm to form pills the size of soybeans. Apply to the glans penis of the male partner during intercourse. Within three acts, the Zhi Jia will be cured.
The etiology of this syndrome stems from menstrual flow occurring on schedule, yet accompanied by sorrow and fear; or from traveling far and encountering violent storms, thunder, lightning, causing fright; or from exposure to dampness leading to fatigue and exhaustion. This results in shortness of breath, dissipation of spirit, and pathogenic factors entering the Yin interior and lingering, giving rise to Hu Jia (Fox Mass, a mass caused by emotional disturbance and qi/blood disorder). This pathology damages the uterus (Zi Zang), causing amenorrhea, rendering the Bao Men Zi Hu (uterine opening) unable to receive sperm, presenting symptoms resembling pregnancy, hyperphagia with frequent vomiting, and lifelong infertility. Treatment employs: One newly deceased mouse. Wrap in fresh cotton wadding, coat with yellow earth, bury in a pit dug in the ground. Roast the earth above using mulberry wood fire for one day and night. Retrieve the mouse, remove the wadding, add Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart) powder 6 zhu, and administer two Fang Cun Bi with wine. The pathogenic factor will be expelled downward. For severe cases, no more than one additional dose is needed; discontinue upon recovery.
