This syndrome refers to the condition shortly after the recovery from *Shanghan* (Cold Damage disease), where body fluids have not yet recovered, and Qi and Blood remain deficient. If physical labor is undertaken too early, the illness recurs; hence it is termed "Fu" (Recurrence). The appropriate prescription is:
Murius Excrement (Shushi) 21 pieces, Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi) 1 sheng, Gardenia (Zhizi) 7 pieces, Rhubarb (Dahuang) 3 liang.
Boil in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2.7 sheng. Divide into three doses. Induce slight sweating; repeated trials show miraculous efficacy.
This syndrome refers to the condition shortly after recovery from *Shanghan*, where the Spleen and Stomach remain weak, and Gu Qi (Grain Essence/Qi derived from food) has not yet recovered. If pork, intestines, blood products, fatty fish, or oily foods are consumed, severe diarrhea will inevitably occur, which is difficult for physicians to treat and may lead to death. If cakes, malt sugar dried meat, raw minced meat, roasted meats, dates, chestnuts, and other hard-to-digest solid foods are eaten, the weak Stomach Qi cannot digest them, leading to internal heat accumulation. If laxatives are appropriately administered at this time, the Stomach Qi becomes cold and deficient, resulting in severe diarrhea that is difficult to control. Failure to purge leads to death, while purging again poses further danger; caution is essential. The appropriate prescription is:
Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi) 5 he, Roasted Licorice Root (Zhi Gancao) and Cinnamon Twig (Guixin) each 2 liang, Rhubarb (Dahuang) 4 liang, Mirabilite (Mangxiao) 0.5 jin.
Boil in 6 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Strain the dregs. Drink 1 sheng when the temperature is suitable before meals, twice daily. Avoid kelp (Haizao), Chinese cabbage (Songcai), and raw green onions (Shengcong).
*Baihe Bing* (Lily Disease) implies that the meridians and all vessels are affected by a single root cause. It arises from *Shanghan* and deficiency-wasting, occurring after a major illness fails to resolve completely. Its symptoms resemble an inability to eat despite wanting to, inability to sleep despite wanting to, inability to go out despite wanting to, appearing to have cold but actually having none, appearing to have heat but actually having none. Various medicines cannot cure it; administering medicine causes severe vomiting and diarrhea. During movement, sitting, or lying down, the spirit appears possessed or erratic. The treatment method uses Lily Bulb (Baihe) as the principal herb, assisted by Anemarrhena Root (Zhimu), because this addresses the need for a second diaphoresis after previous sweating therapy. The formula consists of:
Lily Bulb (Baihe) 7 pieces, Anemarrhena Root (Zhimu) 3 liang.
First, soak the Lily Bulb in spring water overnight, then discard the water. Boil with 2 sheng of spring water until reduced to 1 sheng, then strain. Separately, boil Anemarrhena Root in 2 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng. Mix the Anemarrhena decoction with the Lily Bulb juice, boil again until 1.5 sheng remains, and divide into two doses. If the patient has already undergone purgation and requires subsequent diaphoresis, follow the above method for soaking and boiling 7 Lily Bulbs, additionally adding Talcum (Huashi) 3 liang and Hematite (Daizhe) 1 liang. Boil these in 2 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng, mix with Lily Bulb juice, boil again to obtain 1.5 sheng, and administer as before. If the *Baihe Bing* recurs after emesis, follow the same method: first soak and boil 7 Lily Bulbs, then add Egg Yolk (Jizi Huang) into the juice, stir well, and divide into two doses. If the *Baihe Bing* is in its initial stage, without prior diaphoresis, emesis, or purgation, and the condition remains unchanged, follow the previous method: first soak and boil the Lily Bulb, then add Fresh Rehmannia Juice (Sheng Dihuang Zhi) 1 sheng, mix with Lily Bulb juice, boil again to obtain 1.5 sheng, and take warm, divided into two doses. If the disease resolves after one dose, do not continue administration; typically, foul froth will be discharged in the stool.
