The intestines and stomach are weak and easily invaded by cold or heat pathogens. These pathogenic factors may be active or static, causing dysentery to flare up and subside intermittently. The treatment should be:
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) two liang, Ossa Draconis (Longgu) one piece (the size of a chicken egg), Ecorii Asini Colla (Ejiao) the size of a palm (roasted), Folium Artemisiae Argyi (Aiye) cooked, one handful.
Take the above four ingredients, add five sheng of water, boil the first three ingredients, reduce to two sheng, remove the dregs. Then add the gelatin and melt it, divide into two doses for administration.
Six seeds of Momordica cochinchinensis (Mubiezi).
Remove the shell, take the clean kernel, grind into a paste, and divide into two portions. Use one flour-baked cake, cut in half. Make a hole in one half of the cake, place the medicine inside, and apply it hot over the patient's umbilicus for about the time it takes to cook a meal. Then replace with the other half. Once dysentery stops, appetite returns.
Radix Dichroae (Changshan), Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis (Gancao) roasted, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (Dahuang), Cortex Cinnamomi (Guixin) each four fen.
Grind the above four ingredients into powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of rabbit feces. Take six pills when symptoms are about to appear, swallowed with water. It is beneficial to consume a small amount of hot congee before taking the medicine.
