The technique of acupuncture has been lost for a long time. Although the *Ling Shu* (Spiritual Pivot) and the *Jia Yi Jing* (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) are still extant, learning them is not easy, and applying them is difficult. The acupuncture method practiced by Zhou Yufan, however, is relatively straightforward. The first essential principle of acupuncture recorded in his book states: regardless of whether it is acute or chronic infantile convulsion (infantile epilepsy), when the child is neither hungry nor full, one should use a flower needle (a small needle used for superficial pricking to induce bleeding). The Tiger's Mouth (Hukou area), as well as the Wind, Qi, and Life gates on the fingers, along with Shaoshang (LU-11) on the hand and Shaoshang (KI-11) on the foot, which are key acupoints for treating convulsions, should be treated according to the rule "left for males, right for females." The skin should be slightly pricked to allow blood to flow out; deep insertion must be avoided to prevent injury to the child, which might cause other syndromes. Once this acupuncture method is applied, mild cases can be cured immediately. For severe cases, additional manipulation techniques such as pushing, rotating, pinching, and rubbing should be applied to the primary acupoints. Even if the condition is critical, there is no hope that cannot be expected to revive the patient.
One: Prick Shaoshang (LU-11). Shaoshang is located at the outer corner of the nail of the thumb, approximately the width of a leek leaf. Insert 1 fen deep, and subcutaneously insert 3 fen backwards. It treats throat carbuncle with swelling and pain. (Zhou Yufan)
One: Prick Duanzheng. Duanzheng is located on both sides of the tip of the middle finger. Insert 1 fen deep, and subcutaneously insert 3 fen backwards. Apply moxibustion with seven moxa cones. It treats stroke with loss of consciousness and also treats heart pain. (Zhou Yufan)
One: Prick Quchi (LI-11). Quchi is located on the lateral side of the elbow, in the depression at the end of the transverse cubital crease when the elbow is flexed. Insert 7 fen deep. It treats laryngeal obstruction (laryngospasm/pharyngitis) resulting in inability to speak. (*Zhen Jiu Da Cheng*)
One: Prick Heliao (SI-19). Heliao is located 5 fen lateral to the water ditch point (Renzhong/GV-26) beside the nostril. Insert 3 fen deep. It treats nasal congestion and blockage. (*Zhen Jiu Da Cheng*)
One: Prick Hegu (LI-4). Hegu is located in the depression between the bones of the thumb and the index finger. Insert 3 fen deep. It treats laryngeal obstruction and swelling and pain due to wind-toxin in the throat. (Zhou Yufan)
Note: This section contains limited collections. What is feared is that ignorant individuals may act recklessly, arbitrarily applying acupuncture techniques and treating human life as a trivial matter. This reflects the intention of cautious treatment methods, and those with insight are alarmed by such practices. I have a few relatives and friends who practice acupuncture, and they have repeatedly claimed miraculous effects. This technique has its origins, but given my cautious nature, I remain skeptical.
