Lu (Case 18): Epistaxis has persisted for a long time without stopping, accompanied by fever and a rapid pulse. Upon deep palpation, the pulse feels hollow. Various prescriptions for treating epistaxis have been almost exhausted, yet none have shown any effect. This is due to deficiency-induced fever caused by excessive blood loss.
Huang Kaijun: Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 4 qian), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 6 qian), Guishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1.5 qian), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 2 qian), Jingjie Tan (Schizonepetae Spica Carbonisata, 1 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 0.8 fen), Cebaiye Zhi (Platycladi Cacumen Juice, one small cup).
This prescription originates from my personal insight and is named Jiawei Bushue Tang (Modified Blood-Nourishing Decoction). It cured the patient after three doses.
Zhu (Case 11): Pathogenic heat has forced its way into the Taiyang channel, resulting in reddish urine and hematuria. The treatment should aim to guide blood back to its vessels and lead out the fire pathogen.
Huang Kaijun: Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Danzhuye (Lophatheri Herba).
Zhang (Age 6): Suffered from bloody dysentery for three months, which progressed to hematochezia, occurring several times a day. The complexion was pale and dull. Immediate tonification is contraindicated because the Yang of the fu organs is obstructed.
Sheng Maoyu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1 qian), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 1 qian), Sha Ren Qiao (Amomi Fructus Shell, 1 qian), Ji Nei Jin (Galli Gigerii Endothelium Corneum, one piece, processed with heat), Zhi Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.4 fen).
Lu (Age 63): Hematochezia has persisted for years, accompanied by frequent loose stools. The left Chi pulse alone is fine and small. Ancient texts state that for chronic diseases that do not heal, one should look to the Kidney, primarily because the Kidney serves as the gate of the Stomach. I now apply this principle.
Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 4 qian), Yu Rou (Corni Fructus, 2 qian), Tusizi Bing (Cuscutae Semen Cake, 2 qian), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 2 qian), Jingjie Tan (Schizonepetae Spica Carbonisata, 1 qian), Mao Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 1 qian), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Cebai Ye (Platycladi Cacumen, 1.5 qian), Shan Zha Rou (Crataegi Fructus Flesh, 2 qian).
The servant of Zhang (Age 14): Reported that last year, while playing and lifting heavy stones, he immediately developed hematochezia. This was caused by strenuous effort injuring the Spleen Qi, leading to the Spleen's failure to control blood; over time, the Kidney also failed to secure essence. Since the Kidney is the gate of the Stomach, both Spleen and Kidney should be tonified simultaneously.
Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix, 1.5 liang), Zheng Dongzhu (Processed Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1.5 liang), Sheng Maoyu (Raw Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1 liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 2 liang), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 liang), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 1.5 liang), Shan Yurou (Corni Fructus, 1.5 liang), Tusizi Bing (Cuscutae Semen Cake, 2 liang), Sha Ren Mo (Amomi Fructus Powder, 7 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 1.5 liang), Zhi Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 5 qian), Cebai Ye (Platycladi Cacumen, 1 liang).
Made into pills with jujube flesh. Take 4 qian in the morning. One course of treatment resulted in a complete cure.
Gu (Age 32): Intestinal wind causing hematochezia, accompanied by audible sounds during defecation and coughing. The method of Li Dongyuan should be followed.
Maoyu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie Tan (Schizonepetae Spica Carbonisata), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Cebai Ye (Platycladi Cacumen, stir-fried until black).
After administering agents to raise Yang, scatter wind, and dry blood, several doses reduced both bleeding and cough. The Lung and Large Intestine are exterior-interior partners. However, the current pulse is weak, and there is discomfort and pain around the umbilicus. This is caused by excessive blood loss. The Middle Qi should be tonified, assisted by ascending and dispersing agents.
Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Guishen Tan (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Carbonisata), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jingjie Tan (Schizonepetae Spica Carbonisata), Shengdi Tan (Rehmanniae Radix Carbonisata), Zhi Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Zhang (Age 60): Deficiency and stagnation of Qi in the Large Intestine, causing abdominal pain and hematochezia.
Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix), Maoyu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Sha Ren Qiao (Amomi Fructus Shell), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Zheng Yuzhu (Processed Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Dangshen (Codonopsis Radix), Zha Rou (Crataegi Fructus Flesh), Zhi Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhu Da Zao (Woodworm-eaten Jujubae Fructus).
The illness was instantly cured after four doses. This prescription combines Heidi Huang Wan (Black Earth Yellow Pill) with Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Middle-Boosting Qi-Supplementing Decoction), which is most effective for treating hematochezia in deficient patients.
