(Refer to the preceding syndrome descriptions.)
When women suffer from wind-stroke (Zhong Feng), they may present with opisthotonos (Jiaogong Fanzhang), wind-bi causing immobility of the limbs, hemiplegia with locked jaw, deviation of the mouth and eyes, wind-dizziness with headache, blood-wind, mental restlessness and palpitations, mania, joint gout, wandering blood-wind, itching and urticaria, wind-phlegm, podagra (Xianggangjiao), lower back pain, and various other diseases. Although each of these syndromes has its own specific formula and discussion, one must first understand the general pathology, examine the pulse for deficiency or excess, differentiate the syndrome for cold or heat, assess the patient's physical strength, determine if the pathogen is in the Zang or Fu organs, or in the collaterals or meridians. Treatment should initially follow the formulas from the *Ju Fang* (Bureau Formulary), and one must not act rashly. Current treatment methods suggest first regulating Qi, then treating Wind, which ensures success. This is because wind-stroke, cold-strike, heat-stroke (Zhong Yue), phlegm-strike, and Qi-strike can all cause flooding of saliva, coma, and obstruction. As the saying goes, "Red and purple are indistinguishable, jade and stone are mixed"; physicians must examine carefully. If wind-stroke is treated as Qi-strike, eight or nine out of ten will recover; if Qi-strike is treated as wind-stroke, none out of ten will survive. Therefore, in cases of uncertainty, regardless of whether it is wind-stroke or Qi-strike, one should initially use *Suhe Xiang Wan* (Styrax Pills), *Shexiang Jian* (Musk Decoction), or *Wu Ji San* (Five Accumulations Powder). If it is phlegm-strike, use *Rensu Yin*; if it is cold-strike, use *Lizhong Tang*; if it is heat-stroke, use *Baihu Tang*. For confirmed wind-stroke, formulas such as *Sansheng Yin*, *Muxiang Zhusan*, *Paifeng Tang*, *Xuming Tang*, *Fengyin Tang*, large and small *Zhuli* (Bamboo Sap), *Da Bafeng Tang*, *Zhibao Dan*, and *Niuhuang Qingxin Wan* should be used according to the differentiation of cold, heat, deficiency, and excess, ensuring safety. However, this disease accumulates over a long period and does not occur in a single day. Modern patients often complain of ineffectiveness after two or three doses, showing a lack of understanding. Large doses taken over a long period are necessary for efficacy. Mencius said, "For a seven-year illness, seek three-year-old mugwort," which is true!
*Zhibao Dan*, *Suhe Wan*, *Wu Ji San*, *Niuhuang Qingxin Wan* (See previous Wind-Stroke section.)
*(From Heji Ju Fang)* **Paifeng Tang** treats wind-deficiency, damp-cold in men and women, pathogenic factors entering the Zang organs, delirious speech, mental confusion, and wind invading the five Zang organs.

If the patient has locked jaw and unconsciousness, use a small amount of *Asari Radix* (Beixixin) and *Gleditsiae Fructus* (Zaojiao) ground into fine powder, or just *Pinelliae Rhizoma* (Banxia) ground into fine powder, insufflate into the nose via a reed tube. Wait for sneezing until the patient slightly regains consciousness, then administer warm medicine. For those with strong Qi, use only 0.5 liang of Nanxing, 1 qian of Muxiang, and 14 slices of ginger, decoct and drink two doses, named *Xingxiang Yin*.

**Fuzi Lizhong Tang** treats cold invasion of the five Zang organs, rigidity of the four limbs, aphasia. Historically, a general guarding the border collapsed suddenly while viewing the snow; an accompanying physician administered this medicine, and he recovered after two doses. (See Cold Damage section for both formulas.)
**Jiajian Xiaoxuming Tang** treats sudden severe wind-stroke, loss of consciousness, hemiplegia, deviation of the mouth and eyes, tremors of limbs, slurred speech, limb numbness, mental confusion, heavy vertigo, tendon spasm, and bone/joint pain. It is effective for various wind disorders. For flaccid podagra, long-term use leads to recovery. Patients with chronic wind disorders should take it preventively during cloudy weather or seasonal changes to avoid aphonia. (See Wind-Stroke section.)
**Muxiang Zhusan** treats left paralysis and right hemiplegia, and chronic wind-dampness. This formula regulates Qi, promotes appetite, and relaxes the middle jiao.
