Infants may suffer from heat acquired in the womb, leading to excessive accumulation of heat-toxin that knots at the anus, causing blockage and lack of lubrication, resulting in the condition of "locked anus" (anal closure/obstruction).
If there is no bowel movement by the third day, urgently have a woman rinse her mouth with warm water and perform suction on seven points of the infant: the anterior chest, posterior back, below the umbilicus, and both palms and soles. Perform this four or five times. Also, dissolve half a qian of Calamina (Qingfen) with a little honey in warm water, and administer small amounts frequently until defecation occurs. If stool remains blocked, it indicates internal anal closure; one must use an object to penetrate and open it. A gold hairpin is best, a jade hairpin is second best; insert approximately two cun deep, then insert Suhe Xiang Wan into the opening. Relief is achieved when feces are expelled. If abdominal distension becomes severe, preventing feeding, accompanied by moaning sounds, and this persists for seven days (one week), survival is unlikely.
Suhe Xiang Wan: Treats infant locked anus with constipation. (Formula see section on Convulsions.)
Zhu Dan Jian: Method involves introducing the decoction into the infant's anus.
Pig Gallbladder (Zhudan, one piece, insert a bamboo tube into the gallbladder, tie tightly with silk thread, insert the bamboo tube into the anus, then squeeze to force bile entry, which immediately restores patency)
