Acupoint Diagram of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian
[Indications] Malaria with alternating chills and fever, leukoma (opacity of the cornea), epistaxis (nosebleed), deafness, stiff neck unable to look back, epilepsy, spasm and tightness of the arm and elbow.
Wanguan (SI4): Located in the depression distal to the styloid process of the ulna on the ulnar side of the wrist. It is the Yuan-Source point where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian passes. Needle 2 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Febrile disease with anhidrosis (absence of sweating), pain under the hypochondrium, swelling of the neck and nape, alternating chills and fever with tinnitus, cold tears flowing from the eyes with leukoma development, inability to flex and extend the elbow, malaria accompanied by restlessness and headache, convulsions and traction of the five fingers.
Yanggu (SI5): Located in the depression at the center of the wrist on the ulnar side, below the styloid process of the ulna (acute bone). It is the Jing-River point where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian flows, belonging to Fire in the Five Elements. Needle 2 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Epilepsy with mania, febrile disease with anhidrosis, hypochondriac pain, swelling of the neck and nape, alternating chills and fever, deafness and tinnitus, dental caries pain, inability to raise the arm, pediatric convulsions and tongue stiffness.
Yanglao (SI6): Located anterior and superior to the ulnar head (wrist ankle bone). Another theory states it is 1 cun posterior to Wanguan in the depression. Needle 3 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Soreness and pain in the shoulder and arm, sensation of the shoulder breaking, sensation of the arm being pulled out, inability to move the hand up and down, blurred vision.
Zhizheng (SI7): Located 5 cun posterior to the wrist. This is where the Luo-Connecting vessel of the Hand-Taiyang diverges to connect with the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. Needle 3 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Five types of exhaustion (Wu Lao), epilepsy, mania, wind-stroke with惊风 (convulsions), inability to flex and extend the elbow and arm due to wind deficiency, inability to grasp with the hand, soreness of the waist and back, and stiffness of the neck.
Shaohai (SI8): Located in the depression lateral to the medial epicondyle of the humerus, 0.5 cun from the end of the elbow. To locate, flex the hand towards the head. It is the He-Sea point where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian enters, belonging to Earth in the Five Elements. Needle 2 fen; moxibustion 5 moxa cones.
[Indications] Pain in the elbow, arm, shoulder, and neck; alternating chills and fever; swelling of the tooth roots; wind-induced vertigo and sores/swellings; lower abdominal pain; five types of epilepsy and convulsions.
Jianzhen (SI9): Located between the two bones at the junction below the axillary fold (qu jia), in the depression posterior to Jianyu (SI9 note: standard Jianyu is LI15, here referring to anatomical landmark). Needle 5 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Alternating chills and fever caused by Cold Damage (Shanghan); tinnitus and deafness; heat and pain in the supraclavicular fossa and shoulder; numbness and inability to lift the hands and feet due to Wind-Bi syndrome.
Tianzong (SI11 - *Note: Text describes location consistent with Tianzong or nearby scapular points, specifically mentioning intersection of Taiyang, Yangwei, and Yangqiao*): Located in the depression below the large bone posterior to the shoulder, at the upper medial border of the scapula. To locate, raise the arm. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, the Yangwei Vessel, and the Yangqiao Vessel. Needle 8 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Arm soreness and weakness, shoulder pain radiating to the scapula, qi swelling and spasmodic pain with alternating chills and fever.
Tianzong (SI11): Located in the depression below the large bone posterior to Bingfeng (SI12). Needle 5 fen; moxibustion 2 moxa cones.
[Indications] Soreness and pain in the shoulder and arm, pain at the lateral posterior aspect of the elbow, swelling of the cheek and mandible.
Bingfeng (SI12): Located posterior to the small bone on the shoulder lateral to Tianliao (SI10), with a gap when the arm is raised. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Taiyang, Hand-Yangming, Hand-Shaoyang, and Foot-Shaoyang meridians. Needle 5 fen; moxibustion 5 moxa cones.
[Indications] Shoulder pain with inability to lift the arm.
Quyuan (SI13): Located in the depression at the central curve of the scapula on the shoulder; tenderness upon pressure. Needle 5 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Heat pain and spasm/tightness in the shoulder and arm.
Jianwai Shu (SI14): Located in the depression on the upper medial border of the scapula, 3 cun lateral to the spine. Needle 6 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Scapular pain, generalized Bi syndrome, cold sensation extending to the elbow.
Jianzhong Shu (SI15): Located in the depression on the medial border of the scapula, 2 cun lateral to the spine. Needle 3 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Cough with asthma and hemoptysis (spitting blood), alternating chills and fever, blurred vision.
Tianchuang (SI16) (Alias: Chuanglong): Located between the large tendons of the neck, in the depression where the pulse is palpable, posterior to Futu (LI18) and below the curved jaw angle. Needle 3 fen; moxibustion 3 moxa cones.
[Indications] Neck pain, shoulder/scapular pain pulling the neck preventing turning of the head, cheek swelling, and trismus (lockjaw).
