The Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian contains nine acupoints: Jiquan (HT1), Qingling (HT2), Shaohai (HT3, located deeply), Lingdao (HT4), Tongli (HT5), Yinxi (HT6), Shenmen (HT7), Shaofu (HT8), and Shaochong (HT9).
The Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian originates at Jiquan (HT1), located between the tendons in the axilla, where the meridian enters the chest. Qingling (HT2) is three cun above the elbow joint (olecranon). Shaohai (HT3) is located posterior to the medial aspect of the elbow joint. Lingdao (HT4) is one and a half cun proximal to the transverse crease of the wrist. Tongli (HT5) is one cun proximal to the transverse crease of the wrist. Yinxi (HT6) is taken five fen proximal to the wrist crease, where the arterial pulse can be palpated. Shenmen (HT7) is located at the prominence of the sharp bone (pisiform) distal to the palm. Shaofu (HT8) is directly opposite Laogong (PC8) relative to the post-palm joint. Shaochong (HT9) is located on the medial side of the little finger.
Morphology and Function of the Small Intestine Zang-Fu:
The Classics state: The Small Intestine is the official responsible for receiving and containing, transforming substances. When food descends, the intestine becomes full while the stomach becomes empty. It is also said that the Small Intestine is the "Red Intestine." The lower opening of the Stomach is the upper opening of the Small Intestine, located two cun above the umbilicus, where water and grain begin to separate. The upper opening of the Large Intestine is the lower opening of the Small Intestine; here, clear and turbid substances are separated: fluid seeps into the Bladder, while dregs flow into the Large Intestine.
The vessel of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian originates at the tip of the little finger, follows the lateral aspect of the hand up to the wrist, emerges from the ankle region (styloid process), goes straight up along the lower border of the forearm bone, emerges between the two bones at the medial aspect of the elbow, ascends along the posterior-lower border of the upper arm, emerges from the shoulder joint (jianjie), winds around the scapula, intersects at the shoulders, enters the supraclavicular fossa (quepen), connects with the Heart, follows the pharynx, passes through the diaphragm to reach the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine.
Its branch arises from the supraclavicular fossa, follows the neck up to the cheek, reaches the outer canthus of the eye, and then re-enters the ear. Another branch diverges, follows the cheek upwards to the nose, and reaches the inner canthus of the eye. There are nineteen acupoints in total, thirty-eight on both sides combined.
Shaoze (SI1, also known as Shaoji): Located at the ulnar end of the little finger, one fen distal to the corner of the nail in the depression. It is the Jing-Well (Metal) point of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. Needle 1 fen, moxibustion 1 cone.
【Indications】 Malaria with chills and fever, absence of sweating, throat obstruction with tongue stiffness, vexation, cough, convulsions with arm pain, neck and nape pain with inability to turn the head, cornea opacity.
QianGu (SI2): Located in the depression anterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint on the ulnar side of the little finger. It is the Ying-Spring (Water) point of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. Needle 1 fen, moxibustion 3 cones.
【Indications】 Febrile diseases with absence of sweating, malaria and epilepsy, tinnitus and throat obstruction, swelling of the neck, nape, and cheek radiating to behind the ear, cough, nasal congestion, hematemesis and epistaxis, arm pain with inability to lift, postpartum agalactia in women.
Houxi (SI3): Located in the depression posterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint on the ulnar side of the little finger; take the point with the fist clenched. It is the Shu-Stream (Wood) point of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. Needle 1 fen, moxibustion 1 cone.
