Figure of Acupoints of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian
The meridian of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart originates from the heart, emerges to connect with the heart system (tissues connecting the heart to other organs), descends through the diaphragm, and links with the small intestine. Its branch ascends from the heart system, flanking the pharynx, and connects with the eye system. The main trunk again ascends from the heart system to the lung, emerges from the axilla, descends along the posterior medial aspect of the upper arm, running posterior to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, reaches the medial aspect of the elbow, follows the posterior medial aspect of the forearm, arrives at the end of the ulnar styloid process (pisiform bone) at the wrist, enters the medial palm, follows the medial side of the little finger, and exits at its tip. The prominence below the wrist is called the sharp bone (ulnar styloid). From Shaohai (HT3) downwards along the posterior medial aspect of the forearm, passing through Lingdao (HT4) and Tongli (HT5), it reaches the end of the sharp bone at the wrist, passes through Yinxi (HT6) and Shenmen (HT7), enters the medial palm, reaches Shaofu (HT8), follows to Shaochong (HT9) at the tip of the little finger, and terminates there, transferring to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. There are nine acupoints in this meridian, totaling eighteen on both sides.
Jiquan (HT1): Located in the axilla, between the tendons, where the artery pulses into the chest. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 7 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Hypochondriac pain, coldness and numbness of the elbow and arm, cold extremities, dry heaving, vexation and fullness.
Qingling (HT2): Located 3 cun above the elbow crease; take the point with the arm extended and raised. Moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Headache, yellow eyes, chills with hypochondriac pain, inability to raise the shoulder and arm.
Shaohai (HT3) (also known as Qujie): Located on the medial edge of the elbow, lateral to the large bone behind the joint, 0.5 cun from the elbow end; obtain by flexing the elbow towards the head. This is the He-Sea point of the Heart Meridian, corresponding to Water. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Toothache due to caries, vertigo, mania, vomiting of salivary foam, stiff neck unable to turn back, headache due to wind, rebellious qi, scrofula, inability to raise the elbow and arm.
Lingdao (HT4): Located 1.5 cun proximal to the palmar crease. This is the Jing-River point of the Heart Meridian, corresponding to Metal. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Heart pain, dry heaving, convulsive牵引 with elbow spasm, sudden aphonia.
Tongli (HT5): Located in the depression 1 cun proximal to the wrist. This is the Luo-Connecting point of the Heart Meridian, diverging to the Large Intestine and Small Intestine meridians. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Headache, vertigo, hot face without sweat, mental restlessness, sudden aphonia, palpitations, elbow and arm pain, bitter vomiting, throat obstruction, shortness of breath, urinary incontinence, excessive menstrual bleeding or metrorrhagia in women.
Yinxi (HT6): Located in the pulse within the palm, 0.5 cun proximal to the wrist. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Epistaxis, hematemesis, chills, cold extremities, fright-induced heart pain.
Shenmen (HT7) (also known as Ruizhong, also known as Zhongdu): Located in the depression at the end of the ulnar styloid process at the wrist. This is the Shu-Stream point of the Heart Meridian, corresponding to Earth. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Malaria, mental restlessness and palpitations, heart pain with shortness of breath, fever with red face, mania with laughter and joy, hematemesis, urinary incontinence, aphonia, amnesia, Fu-Liang accumulation in the heart, five types of epilepsy in adults and children.
Shaofu (HT8): Located in the depression between the bones distal to the base of the little finger, directly opposite Laogong (PC8). This is the Ying-Spring point of the Heart Meridian, corresponding to Fire. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 moxibustion cones.
[Indications] Vexation and fullness with shortness of breath, sore arm, spasm of the elbow and axilla, chest pain, chronic malaria unresponsive to treatment, chills, prolapse of the uterus, pruritus and pain in the genitalia, urinary incontinence, testicular swelling, difficult urination.
Shaochong (HT9) (also known as Jingshi): Located at the radial tip of the little finger, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail corner. This is the Jing-Well point of the Heart Meridian, corresponding to Wood. Needle 0.1 cun, moxa 1 moxibustion cone.
[Indications] Heat disease with vexation and fullness, rebellious qi with dry throat and thirst, pain along the posterior medial aspect of the arm, jue-type heart pain, chest and hypochondriac pain, elbow and axillary pain, hand spasm with inability to extend.
