Hair (Fah): Sweet in taste, warm in nature. It is also said to have a slight cold nature and be non-toxic. It primarily treats five types of strangury (difficulty or pain in urination), Guan Ge syndrome (simultaneous obstruction of urination and vomiting), and promotes the free flow of urine through the water passages. It treats epilepsy in children and aphasia due to stroke in adults, restoring spiritual clarity. When decocted with egg yolk until it turns into water, it treats childhood convulsive fever and heat sores. Unkempt hair is slightly warm and has a very rapid effect in nourishing Yin. It treats cough, five types of strangury, obstruction of both large and small bowels, childhood convulsive epilepsy, Yanmian sore (a type of facial rash), smallpox, severe epistaxis (nosebleed approaching death). Burn it, grind into powder, and take one Fangcun Bi (approx. 2-3 grams) per dose. It can also be blown into the nasal cavity for immediate relief. It stops bleeding, treats blood stagnation causing syncope, wind-stroke from metal wounds, bloody dysentery. Burn to ash but do not completely consume it. Decoct into a paste to promote flesh growth and resolve blood stasis. Treats tetanus and wind-stroke after washing hair. (Take hair the size of an egg, fry in a non-oily vessel until charred black, grind to powder, mix with one cup of good wine and two qian of Polygonum multiflorum [Heshouwu] powder, let cool slightly and administer orally; repeat after 15-30 minutes for extreme efficacy.) If hair is accidentally swallowed and wraps around the throat, (take one's own hair, burn to ash, mix with water, and take one qian.)
Human Breast Milk: Sweet in taste, cold in nature. Non-toxic. Primarily tonifies the five Zang organs, making the body plump, skin white, lustrous, and healthy. Dripping it into the eyes stops tearing and brightens vision, treating redness and pain.
Head Grease (Toubao): Warm in nature. Treats strangury with obstruction, and recurrence of Shanghan disease due to overexertion. Taken as pills, or soaked to extract juice for oral administration, it treats Yige (dysphagia/food impaction). Decocted with sour fermented rice water into a paste for oral administration, it also treats Gu poison (poisoning by magical means or insects) and mushroom poisoning. Administered with rice drink or wine, applied externally to remove bamboo or wood splinters embedded in flesh. For attacks by evil spirits or ghosts, take a dose the size of a small bean with water.
Human Feces: Cold in nature. Primarily treats epidemic high fever with mania and running about, and resolves various toxins. Use extremely dry feces ground into powder, administered with boiling water. It effectively breaks Ding abscesses (hardened carbuncles); cut open with a new knife, apply feces, and after one day the root rots and falls off; or burn to ash, mix with vinegar to form a mud-like paste, apply to the affected area, and change when dry. Fenqing (fecal supernatant): In the twelfth lunar month, cut light green bamboo, remove skin, soak to渗 out juice, treat epidemic heat, mania, phlegm-heat toxicity, and dew-sores; administer the juice orally.
Human Urine: Cold in nature. (Urine from young boys/girls is especially good.) Primarily treats chills and fever with headache, warm qi and heat consumption causing cough and lung萎 (withering), and descends fire most rapidly. Treats sudden blood attacking the heart, traumatic blood stasis, hematemesis and severe epistaxis. Mix with a little fresh ginger juice, boil for one or two boils, and drink while hot. For difficult labor and retained placenta, decoct with ginger and scallion, drink while hot to expel the placenta. After childbirth, drink one cup warm to press down foul blood and bad matter, preventing blood syncope. Not suitable for those with Qi and Blood deficiency without heat. Apply hot urine to traumatic wounds, snake/dog bites, and hot strangury.
Washing Water from Pants, Menstrual Cloth, Women's Crotch Cloth: Primarily antidotes poisoned arrows and female post-coital relapse (Nulaofu), and Shanghan Yang-Yin Yi (sexual transmission of illness between partners). Burn menstrual cloth, administer with hot water, one Fangcun Bi. People in Jiaozhou use charcoal copper arrowheads poisoned; if pierced by such an arrow, death is imminent, but menstrual juice can detoxify it. Also, crotch cloth treats Yang-Yin Yi; cut the male crotch cloth, burn to powder, take one Fangcun Bi; virgin's cloth is especially good. If a woman suffers from Yin Yi, she must use a man's crotch cloth. Patients with Yin Yi contract the disease after sexual intercourse following recovery from an epidemic illness; it is more severe than the original disease, presenting with dark, scanty, painful urination, severe chills and fever. Taking this remedy restores bowel movement.
Dead Person's Pillow: (Obtain from a grave, boil and administer.) Treats Shizhu disease (chronic wasting disease attributed to ghosts), stone roundworms in the abdomen, evil qi invading the Liver, eye pain, and hallucinations of seeing ghosts. Someone asked: these three diseases are different, why does the dead person's pillow cure all? Xu Sibai said: Shizhu is ghostly qi, latent and inactive, causing lethargy; treating it with a dead person's pillow causes the soul's qi to fly away and not reattach, so Shizhu heals itself. Stone roundworms are formed by medical treatment into masses, where roundworms harden and cannot be expelled by worldly medicines; thus, ghostly substances are needed to drive them out, hence decocting and taking the dead person's pillow. Evil qi invading the Liver causes eye pain and seeing wuliang (monsters); one needs an evil substance to hook it out, hence using the qi of the dead person's pillow to remove it, which is why it is buried in graves.
