A patient with Shang Han (Cold Damage disease) had his tongue protruding more than one cun and unable to retract for several days. Applying Meihua Bingpian (Plum Blossom Borneol) to the tongue caused immediate retraction; severe cases required a dosage of three qian to resolve.
Zi He treated a female patient whose tongue was swollen like water-filled blisters, filling the entire mouth, rendering all medications ineffective. He employed Zhen Bian (needle scarification), releasing blood which reduced the swelling; it took three days for the condition to fully subside.
A postpartum woman suffered from tongue protrusion that could not be retracted. Cinnabar was applied to her tongue. Two women supported her, simulating the posture of childbirth, while a clay vessel was secretly dropped outside the wall to create a loud crashing sound. Upon hearing the noise, the woman was startled, and her tongue immediately retracted.
A woman suddenly developed a pair of worms capable of crawling on the ground, each over one cun long. Subsequently, a new pair appeared monthly. She was administered pills made from Kushen (Sophora Root) combined with vermifuge herbs. After taking them, another pair emerged. These worms were buried in soil; after several days, they were excavated and found to be as large as a fist. Known as Zi Mu Chong (Mother-Child Worms), their eradication eliminated the root cause of the infestation.
A woman experienced spurting hemorrhage from her eyes or bleeding down her nose. When the blood loss was significant, her menstruation ceased. This was diagnosed as a disorder of Yin deficiency with hyperactive Ministerial Fire. A decoction was prepared using Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Jiu Shao Yao (Wine-fried Peony Root), plus Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Tiao Qin (Scutellaria Root), Ce Bai Ye (Biota Tops), Mu Tong (Akebia Stem), Tao Ren (Peach Seed), and Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower). Taken before meals, the patient recovered.

A male patient developed red spots and itching all over his body every autumn and winter. This was caused by cold qi causing the contraction of Cou Li (skin pores and interstices), preventing Yang qi from dispersing outward, leading to internal stagnation and heat. It was appropriate to use Ren Shen Bai Du San (Ginseng Detoxifying Powder) to release the exterior, followed by Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) to consolidate the exterior, resulting in recovery.
A man became dizzy and faint after skinning a dead cow, developing purple blisters all over his body. The blisters were urgently punctured. After some time, he regained consciousness. He was subsequently treated with detoxifying medicines and healed.
A patient suffering from Nao Ju (Brain Carbuncle) exhibited swelling of the face and eyes, with the head enlarged to the size of a dou (a traditional unit of volume). This was attributed to damp-heat in the Bladder. Two doses of Huang Lian Xiao Du Yin (Coptis Detoxifying Drink) were administered, followed by two bowls of Huai Hua Jiu (Sophora Flower Wine), which rapidly reduced the swelling. However, the area remained soft upon pressure, indicating pus formation. Holes were pierced at the vertex, forehead, shoulders, and cheeks to drain the pus, restoring vision and head shape. Finally, twenty doses of formulas to support the interior and expel toxins, supplemented with Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle Flower) and Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), led to complete recovery.
