If one wishes to treat diseases, nothing is superior to the use of acupuncture. Skillfully manipulating the subtleties of Shenji (the intrinsic mechanism of vital activities), and deeply exploring the profound principles of the sages. Externally employing Bian stones and needles can eliminate pathogenic factors and assist healthy Qi; internally containing the principles of Water and Fire (referring to Yin-Yang and cold-heat pathological changes), it is adept at restoring Yang and reversing Yin syndromes.
Tracing back to the origin, collaterals branch out distinctly, and meridians interlace comprehensively. Some diverge like ditches, streams, and valleys, while others connect with gaps like mountains, seas, and hills. Although these streams are difficult to separate, they have a unified system in their guidelines. If the principles are complex and obscure, what merit will there be in applying tonification and sedation? If the methods are agile and clear, they can naturally be applied through Ying-Sui (Ying-Sui tonification and sedation).
For instance, if walking is difficult, Taichong (LR3) is most miraculous. Renzhong (GV26) eliminates stiffness and pain of the spine; Shenmen (HT7) removes mental dullness and dementia. When wind damages the neck causing stiffness, one should initially seek Fengfu (GV16); for dizziness and vertigo, one must look for Fengchi (GB20). For ear blockage, Tinghui (GB2) is required for treatment; for eye pain, Hegu (LI4) is used to push it away. For chest stagnation and yellow complexion, Quanyuan (KI1) can be taken; for dizziness and red eyes, Zanzhu (BL2) is drained for convenience. If both elbows are cramped, Quchi (LI11) relies on to smooth them out. For toothache, Lüxi (KD4, also known as Daxi) is suitable for treatment; for neck stiffness, Chengjiang (CV24) ensures recovery. Toubai (SP3) circulates Qi to Qichong (ST30); Yinlingquan (SP9) opens Shuidao (ST28). For abdominal distension, Neiting (ST44) should be seized without delay; for muscle spasms and pain, Chengshan (BL57) should be drained early. Generally, for ankle pain, Jiexi (ST41) cures it; for knee pain, Yinshi (ST33) can treat it. For epilepsy and mania, Houxi (SI3) is relied upon for management; for malaria with chills and fever, Jianshi (PC5) is relied upon for support. Qimen (LR14) resolves chest fullness and blood distension; Laogong (PC8) retreats stomach reversal and heart pain, leaving no room for doubt. Examining Dadun (LR1) removes unilateral pain of the seven types of hernia, as stated by Wang Gong; Zusanli (ST36) overcomes emaciation from the five labors, as spoken by Hua Tuo. Wangu (SI4) dispels jaundice; Ranggu (KI2) drains Kidney fire. Xingjian (LR2) treats knee swelling and lower back pain; ChiZe (LU5) removes elbow pain and tendon stiffness. For dim vision, Erjian (LI2) is suitable to select; for nasal congestion and loss of smell, Yingxiang (LI20) can guide. Jianjing (GB21) removes unbearable damp-pain in both arms; Sizhukong (SJ23) treats intolerable lateral headache. For cough with cold phlegm, Lieque (LU7) is reliable; for eye discharge and cold tears, Linqi (GB15/BL1) is particularly accurate. Guangu (BL29) removes residual leg pain; Shenshu (BL23) drains lower back pain completely. Yue Ren (Bian Que) treated corpse-jue (syncope) at Huizhong (GV10), reviving instantly; Wen Bo expelled dead fetus at Sanyinjiao (SP6), delivering immediately. It is said that all pains belong to excess, and all numbness belongs to deficiency. Excess enters from the outside, while deficiency exits from the inside! Therefore, tonifying the Mother acupoint supplements insufficiency, and reducing the Child acupoint balances surplus. Observing the twenty-seven meridians, distinguishing each clearly; based on four hundred and forty-four disease symptoms, removing each item. Thus, avoiding premature death, bringing people to an age of longevity; judging the subtle details, manifesting the mysterious books of ancient times. It is also heard that for heart and chest diseases, seek Dalin (PC7) behind the palm; for shoulder and back pain, demand Sanli (LI10 or ST36) before the elbow. For cold bi syndrome and Kidney failure, take the Earth point of Foot-Yangming (ST36); for umbilical and abdominal pain, drain the Water point of Foot-Shaoyin (KI7 or KI9). For pain between the spine and behind the heart, needling Zhongzhu (TE3) leads to immediate cure; for pain under the ribs and along the sides, puncturing Yanglingquan (GB34 stops it immediately). For head and neck pain, plan Houxi (SI3) for peace; for waist and foot pain, it lies in Weizhong (BL40) alone. (Note from *Weisheng Baojian*: Lüxi acupoint, also named Daxi, is an acupoint of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian.)
