Treat Shaoyin disease (Shaoyin syndrome) presenting two to three days after onset, with mental restlessness and inability to sleep.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连) (4 liang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (1 liang), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 芍药) (2 liang), Yolk of Chicken Egg (Jizihuang, 鸡子黄) (2 pieces), Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix (Ejiao, 阿胶) (3 liang).
Take the above five herbs, add five sheng of water, first decoct the first three herbs, reduce to two sheng, strain, dissolve the Ejiao into the liquid, let it cool slightly, then add the Yolk of Chicken Egg, stir well until mixed, and take warm.
Ke Yunbo stated: This is the Xiexin Decoction (Draining Heart Decoction) for Shaoyin syndrome. Generally, Xiexin methods rely on Huanglian and Huangqin, but the guiding principles differ between Yin and Yang. When the pathogen is in the Three Yang channels, if the Stomach is disharmonious, the Spirit (Shen) cannot find peace, and the Essence and Spirit fail to return to their proper place; urgent downward movement is required to harmonize the Spirit.
It is indicated for cold hands and feet with a fine pulse nearly imperceptible. If the patient has chronic internal cold, add Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜).
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂枝), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 芍药) (each 3 liang), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草), Tetrapanacis Medulla (Tongcao, 通草) (each 2 liang), Jujubae Fructus (Dazao, 大枣) (25 pieces).
Take the above seven herbs, add eight sheng of water, decoct and take one sheng warm per dose, three times daily.
Ke Yunbo stated: This is a formula for dispersing exterior cold when Jueyin syndrome is initially affected by cold. In Jueyin cold damage, the pulse is faint and there is cold extremities. Because Jueyin is the intersection of two Yin channels, with latent Ministerial Fire, the pulse is fine, and Qi and Blood circulation is impaired, leading to cold extremities. This formula has a dispersing action; Xixin can penetrate through the interior and exterior of the Yin channels.
Cheng Jiaoqian stated: Shaoyin governs Qi; when Jue occurs, it becomes cold, requiring the guidance of Qi back to the Kidney. Jueyin governs Blood; when Jue occurs, it becomes deficient, requiring warming of the meridians to restore Ying (Nutritive) Blood.
It treats Jueyin syndrome with dry retching, vomiting of saliva and froth, and headache; Shaoyin syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea, cold extremities, and severe irritability as if death were imminent; Yangming syndrome with desire to vomit after eating food.
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (1 sheng), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参) (3 liang), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (6 liang), Jujubae Fructus (Dazao, 大枣) (12 pieces).
Take the above four herbs, add seven sheng of water, decoct to obtain two sheng, take seven ge warm per dose, three times daily.
Luo Dongyi stated: Among Zhang Zhongjing's methods for rescuing Yang, in the Sini Decoction (Four Reversal Decoction) for Shaoyin, Ginger and Aconite must be used; in Tongmai Sini Decoction (Pulse-Reviving Four Reversal Decoction), the dosage of dried ginger is increased. The role of Aconite is to establish stability, allowing the generation of One Yang Qi, enhancing its drying and ascending nature at the extremities, ensuring smooth Qi flow. Scholars...
Wang Youyuan stated: Both Shaoyin and Jueyin present with irritability and restlessness. Shaoyin irritability lies in Water, due to Dragon Fire failing to return to its source, thus Ginger and Aconite can restore Yang; Jueyin... (text cuts off here)
