Taste: Acrid, Nature: Very Cold, Toxicity: Non-toxic. Indications: Mainly treats heat accumulation and stagnation of food and drink in the stomach; breaks up retained blood, obstructions, and closures; resolves stagnant phlegm, distension, and fullness; eliminates the old to promote the new. When refined, it becomes white like silver; it possesses the properties of Cold, Heat, Slippery, Astringent, Acrid, Bitter, Salty, and Sour. It remains unchanged even after being buried underground for a thousand years; those that are greenish-white are superior, yellow ones harm people, and red ones kill people. Also known as Xiaoshi Piao (Niter Piao). Grows on the sunny side of salty water streams in Yizhou; can be harvested at any time. (Averse to Maijujiang.)

Indications: Mainly treats one hundred and twenty diseases involving the five zang organs and twelve meridians; sudden shanghan (cold damage), severe heat in the abdomen; stops irritability, fullness, and thirst with urination; corrodes sores. It is a divine substance of heaven and earth, capable of transforming into twelve types of stones. Grows in Yizhou, as well as Wudu, Longxi, and Xiqiang; can be harvested at any time. (Firefly is its guide drug; incompatible with Kushen and Kucai; averse to Nüwan.)

Nature: Very Cold, Toxicity: Non-toxic. Unblocks the nine orifices, six fu organs, and body fluids; removes retained stagnations; stops thirst; makes the body feel light and free. Also known as Yeshi, Gongshi, Cuishi, and Fanshi. Grows in Zhe Yang, on the south slope of Mount Tai, or in Ye Bei Baishan, or Juan Shan; can be harvested at any time.
