大便溏泄频频，势若可畏，然不可与收摄肾胃两关。盖伏邪藏深，为日已久，兹方有出路，
而可骤行纳缩乎？但柔滑之品，须暂行停止。议热淫于内，治以甘苦，佐以咸寒法，妙在即
寓坚阴收纳于其中。

Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 6 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 liang), Sheng Shigao (Raw Gypsum Fibrosum, 8 qian), Chao Jingmi (Stir-fried Rice, a pinch).
Decoct for the first time to obtain three cups of liquid; decoct for the second time to obtain two cups. Take one cup three times today, and one cup twice tomorrow morning.
On the 5th day: Add to the previous prescription:
Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 6 qian); remove Jingmi.
This case has taken a total of 1 liang 8 qian of Zixue Dan and five pills of Niuhuang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill). Mental clarity is restored, stool is unblocked, tongue coating recedes, pulse becomes calm, and body temperature normalizes. Subsequently, Erjia Fumai Tang (Two-Shells Decoction to Restore Pulse) was administered for eighteen doses.
Patient Pu, male, 44 years old, May 29th. The warm-heat pathogen had persisted for over a month without resolution. Initially, incorrect tonification of the Middle Jiao was used, leaving no exit for the pathogen. Subsequently, rigid agents from the Summerheat-Dampness category were employed, worsening the condition rather than alleviating it. It is proposed to use a combination of Sweet-Cold and Bitter-Cold herbs to transform Yin Qi, allowing urination to occur naturally. Forcing diuresis would risk exhausting the source of fluids!

On the 30th: Yesterday, Yunnv Jian (Jade Woman Decoction) and Yinqiao San (Honeysuckle and Forsythia Powder) were combined, with added bitter-cold herbs. This represents the method of Sweet-Bitter transforming Yin Qi, as well as the Bitter-Acrid moistening method. Bowel movement has now been achieved ("sailing the boat"). Now entering the method of "penetrating Yin to search out pathogens."

Patient Shi, male, 38 years old. After sweating in a warm disease, the pulse should be calm and the body cool according to protocol. Although the pulse has weakened due to sweating, it still beats five times per breath and is not weak. Furthermore, the patient speaks incessantly and sharply when describing symptoms to the doctor. How could someone on the verge of collapse within a day or two exhibit such vigor? While others fear deficiency in this patient, I alone fear excess. Currently, frequent loose stools seem alarming, but we must not use astringents to consolidate the Kidney and Stomach gates. The latent pathogen has been hidden deeply for a long time; now that there is an outlet via the stool, how can we suddenly apply contraction and retention methods? However, slippery-nourishing herbs must be temporarily stopped. It is proposed to treat heat rampant inside with Sweet-Bitter methods, assisted by Salty-Cold herbs, ingeniously incorporating firming of Yin and retention within the formula.
Sheng Muli (Raw Ostreae Concha, 2 liang), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 5 qian), Sheng Biejia (Raw Trionycis Carapax, 2 liang), Huangbo Tan (Charred Phellodendri Cortex, 3 qian), Huangqin Tan (Charred Scutellariae Radix, 3 qian).
Patient Zhou, male, 63 years old, June 8th. Warm diseases strictly forbid the use of foot-Taiyang channel herbs. Moreover, Chaihu ascends directly to Shaoyang; unless lower exhaustion and upper reversal persist indefinitely. Even if it were Taiyang cold damage, Chaihu is never used for ten days continuously. Currently, vomiting and hematochezia are present, which *Ling Shu* calls incurable. Reluctantly, Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) is suggested, adding Huanglian for Sweet-Bitter transformation.
Da Shengdihuang (Large Raw Rehmanniae Radix, 6 qian), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 2 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 qian), Sheng Baishao (Raw Paeoniae Radix Alba, 4 qian), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 4 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 6 qian, with heart), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 2 qian).
Divide into two doses. Stop when vomiting and bleeding cease, and urine is no longer red.
On the 11th: Symptoms have slightly decreased, but due to the prolonged duration, priority is given to protecting Body Fluids. The Bitter-Sweet method to transform Yin Qi is resumed.

Patient Liang, female, 62 years old, June 23rd, Bingchen Year. Pulse is rapid and urgent, body feverish with headache, desire for cold drinks. This is Summerheat injuring the Hand-Taiyin Lung. Strictly avoid misdiagnosing as Cold Damage and using Qianghuo, Fangfeng, Chaihu, or Ge Gen.
Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructum, 3 qian), Sangye (Mori Folium, 1.5 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian), Yinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 3 qian), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 4 qian), Ku Jiegeng (Bitter Platycodonis Radix, 2 qian).
Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 8 fen), Douchi (Prepared Soybean, 1.5 qian), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 2 qian).
On the 24th: Add to the previous prescription:
Huogeng (Agastaches Rhizoma, 2 qian), Guang Yujin (Curcumae Radix, 3 qian), Xingrenni (Apricot Seed Paste, 3 qian), Heyebian (Lotus Leaf Margin, 1 piece).
On the 25th: Six pulses are surging, large, and rapid; thirst with desire for cold drinks indicates a Pure Yang syndrome with simultaneous burning of Qi and Blood. Use Yunnv Jian (Jade Woman Decoction).

On the 6th: Warm disease with floating pulse, spontaneous sweating, wheezing, thick white tongue coating, desire for cold drinks. Use heavy Acrid-Cool agent.

Grind into coarse powder, divide into eight packets. Take one packet every hour.
On the 7th: Limb bi-syndrome after epidemic.

Do not mistake for Cold and use Warm herbs.

Niuhuang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill), three pills. Take one pill every hour. If consciousness remains unclear and mute, take two or three more pills.
The previous prescription uses Aromatics to open the Danzhong, treating the pathogen. Fear that elderly Yin is exhausted, spontaneous sweating leads to collapse; thus, Fumai method is used to protect Yin, consolidating Zheng Qi. Take after second watch.

On the 4th: Elderly warm disease prolonged, excessive wind herbs caused sweating damaging Jin Ye, resulting in hard dry stool, dry mouth, yellow tongue. This is Yangming syndrome, requiring purgation. But Qi and Blood are long deficient, likely cannot tolerate Chengqi Tang. Propose Zengye Tang (Increase Fluids Decoction): increase fluids to tonify Righteousness, remove accumulation to expel Pathogen, i.e., "increase water to float the boat."

Fingers and arms twitch occasionally, indicating Ji Song (clonic spasms). Reluctantly use Yunnv Jian (Jade Woman Decoction) method.

On the 15th: Floating pulse indicates pathogen returning to exterior; extreme thirst adds Shigao.

On the 17th: Warm disease mistreated for long, Upper Jiao heat not cleared, Lower Jiao fluids depleted. Use Clear Upper, Solidify Lower method.

If fever completely subsides and no thirst tomorrow, remove Shigao. Even if not completely gone, if no desire for cold drinks, remove it. If illness resembles today, formula resembles today. First decoction two bowls, second one bowl.
On the 19th: Take another dose of previous prescription.
On the 20th: Thirst stops, pulse calm, body cool. Use Fumai method.
Patient Yang, April 4th, Jiazi Year. Warm disease with spontaneous sweating, floating and hollow pulse, confused spirit, occasional delirium. First take two pills of Niuhuang Wan (Calculus Bovis Pill), then Renshen Baihu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction).
Sheng Shigao (Raw Gypsum Fibrosum, 8 liang, decoct first), Yangshen (American Ginseng, 4 qian), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 4 liang), Jingmi (Rice, 2 he), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang).
Stop Niuhuang Wan when spirit clears; stop Shigao when fever subsides. Otherwise, continue both.
On the 5th: Add Yangshen (American Ginseng, 4 qian) to previous prescription, total 8 qian.
On the 6th: Heavy use of Baihu Tang, pulse converges, fever not fully subsided, cough with abdominal pain. Propose Sweet-Bitter transforming Yin Qi method.

On the 19th: Patient has chronic Phlegm-Fluid retention, plus external pathogen invasion, fever, yellow coating, rapid pulse, desire for cold, indicating warm disease. Yesterday used Acrid-Cool Aromatics. After bowel movement today, pathogen not yet removed. Must continue Acrid-Cool dispersal. As *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states: treat new disease first, old disease later, but protect against Phlegm-Fluid!
