The world is so vast, what things are not present? There are demons of birds, beasts, plants, and trees; demons of earth, stones, vessels, and utensils; human demons; and ghost demons. Demons are not of a single kind, but all originate from the human mind. Excessive exposure or obsession damages the Shen (Spirit), and when the Shen is damaged, the Hun (Ethereal Soul) becomes diseased. The Hun resides in the Liver, so the Liver pulse manifests abnormalities. Initially, the pulse should be Wiry (Xian); later, it should become Scattered (San). A Wiry pulse indicates mental confusion, while a Scattered pulse signifies death. While the pulse is Wiry but has not yet become Scattered, quickly administer Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) added with Shichangpu (Acorus Rhizome), Yuanzhi (Polygala Root), and Zaoren (Ziziphus Seed). Then, grind Xionghuang (Realgar), Chensha (Cinnabar), and Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica) into powder, mix with saliva, and apply to the seven orifices to protect the body. Burn Jiangxiang (Dalbergia Odorifera) frequently in the bedroom, recite the *I Ching* (Book of Changes), and rectify one's own heart and will, so that evil Qi can be dispelled.
Dogs become demonic due to infection by Yang-toxic Qi. Human body and mind belong to Yang; when injured, frightful Qi enters the Heart, Heart Qi reverses and transmits to the Liver, and Liver Qi reverses and transmits to the Kidney. The Kidney and Bladder are exterior-interior pairs; the Heart and Small Intestine are exterior-interior pairs. The Bladder connects to the Small Intestine and belongs to the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel, thus the Bladder serves as the pathway for toxic Qi. When toxic Qi gathers in the pathway, it forms lesions, which is the most malignant manifestation. At the initial stage of injury, apply a mixture of Earthworm Mud, Qingfen (Calomel), and Gancao (Licorice) powder to the wound. When dry, moisten with salt water. Healing occurs when dog hairs grow out from within the sore. Additionally, dig more than one zhang deep into the ground, take Di Jiang (Earth Slurry), mix with Gancao powder, and consume in large amounts. This is because the sweet and cold flavor can resolve Yang-evil toxicity. However, one must avoid hearing metal and drum sounds for three years.
Abdominal pain during menstruation, where increased pain leads to heavier flow, even resulting in death from pain, is caused by the combat of Fire pathogen. It is appropriate to invigorate blood and dissipate fire, allowing the Spleen to control blood. However, without using methods to break stasis, fire will not dissipate, and blood cannot stop. Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) and Shaoyao (Peony Root) are used to astringe blood; Danggui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root Body), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), and Fuling (Poria) are used to regulate the Spleen and benefit blood; Yimucao (Motherwort Herb) breaks blood stasis within Qi; Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizome) moves Qi within blood; Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome) opens stagnant heat; if deficient, add Renshen (Ginseng Root). Generally, regulating the Spleen allows blood to be controlled, and dissipating fire allows blood to stop. For Qi stagnation, add Renchen (Amomum Fruit) and Muxiang (Vladimiria Root), avoiding Shengdi (Rehmannia Root) and Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root). To regulate menstruation, nothing surpasses Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) added with Yimucao and Xiangfu. For conception, husband and wife may consume 1 jin of Tusizi (Dodder Seed), boiled in wine until soft, pounded into cakes, dried, and mixed with 1 sheng of frozen rice (cooked and roasted) into powder, taken with boiling water on an empty stomach.
Xiaoyao San treats tidal fever in women only when menstruation happens to occur at that time. For other cases of tidal fever, treat according to the method of "Yang generates Yin, Yin grows."
For amenorrhea or irregular menstruation, use Huojing Tang (Revive Menstruation Decoction): Danggui, Chishao (Red Peony Root), Binglang (Areca Nut), Baizhi, Wuyu (Evodia Fruit), Xiaohui (Fennel Fruit), Niuxi (Achyranthes Root), Danpi (Moutan Bark), Honghua (Safflower) each 8 fen; if ineffective, add Muxiang, Mugua (Chaenomeles Fruit), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), and Yanhusuo.
For bright red menstrual blood, tense sinews with chest pain, and stiff back pain, use Chaihu Tiaojing Tang (Bupleurum Regulating Menstruation Decoction): Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice), Danggui Shen, Gegen (Kudzu Root) each 3 qian; Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Lancea Rhizome) each 1 qian; Gaoben (Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome) each 5 fen; Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) 7 fen; Honghua a small amount. Take on an empty stomach to induce slight sweating.
To permanently prevent childbirth: Hawthorn, Qianshi (Euryale Seed), Lianxu (Lotus Stamen), Shudi, Fuling in equal parts; Jinyingzi (Cherokee Rose Hip), Lianzi (Lotus Seed), Qizi (Goji Berry) made into pills with rice paste, taken with salt water on an empty stomach. Another prescription: Ivory Dust 3 fen, mixed with wine for regular consumption. After three years, no pregnancy; take once every one or two days for permanent sterility.
For uterine blood accumulation and blood masses causing amenorrhea: Ezhu (Curcuma Rhizome) and Sanleng (Sparganium Rhizome) each 1 liang, Shu Dahuang (Prepared Rhubarb) 1 liang. Make pills the size of mung beans, take 10-20 pills per dose.
Case Record
A woman experienced alternating chills and fever in the afternoon, abdominal distension and pain, nausea, night sweats, and obstructed menstruation. The physician treated her as Blood Deficiency (Blood Dryness). Upon diagnosis, I recorded the following analysis:
The harmonious Qi is blocked between the skin and muscles. Evening belongs to Yin, and blood also belongs to Yin. Fever in the afternoon occurs because Yang Qi travels to the Yin aspect and causes heat. Abdominal distension and pain, along with loss of appetite, indicate that the Spleen lacks blood nourishment and cannot transport fluids for the Stomach, leading to blockage of Qi in the Middle Jiao. Nausea results from the Stomach's inability to digest food and the blazing of Evil Fire. Night sweats occur because Yang Qi is not secure and escapes during sleep. Generally, Qi moves blood, and Yang generates Yin. This condition arises because insecure Yang Qi leads to blood stasis. Use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) to treat Qi; when Qi is sufficient, blood moves naturally. Add Shouwu (Polygonum Multiflorum) and Wuyao (Lindera Root) to treat blood, so blood becomes vigorous. Add a little Chenpi (Tangerine Peel) to awaken the Spleen...
A woman who had given birth five years ago had stopped menstruating, accompanied by chills, fever, vomiting, and bone/joint pain. Her six pulses were Wiry, especially at the Left Guan and Chi positions. This is due to the Liver failing to store blood, leading to blood accumulation and stagnation, caused by the failure of Kidney Qi to ascend and Lung Qi to descend. In moving Qi, one must simultaneously move blood; Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), a herb that moves blood, is indispensable. Moreover, this condition involves Kidney... and Spleen/Stomach deficiency. If Rougui is not used to warm the Kidney, how can the One Yang of the Kidney arise? If Kidney Qi does not ascend, how can Lung Qi descend? If Metal and Water do not communicate, the Qi of the Triple Burner cannot move up and down, leading to final blood stasis and unrelieved diseases.
