Zha She Hou Feng (Tongue-Rolling Throat Wind)
This condition occurs on both the upper and lower sides of the throat, near the uvula where small blisters appear, which may be red or purple. The external cheeks are all swollen, but the interior of the throat is not swollen; the tongue is curled and enlarged. This is a malignant condition. Observing the treatment of these various conditions, few recover. Use Liuwei Tang (Six-Ingredient Decoction) added with: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 2 qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, raw, 4 qian), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructum, 2 qian), mixed with Yushu Dan (Jade Pill), 1 qian. Administer urgently for three to four doses; there may be a chance of survival. If the jaw becomes black and swollen, or if the patient shakes their head and loses teeth, it is difficult to treat. This condition is caused by accumulated toxicity in the Lung and Liver.
Xu Lan Hou Feng (Deficiency Ulcerative Throat Wind)
This condition arises from insufficiency of the root essence, with deficiency fire flaming upward. It occurs inside the glottis area of the throat, presenting as redness above and below, with white patches, pain, and ulceration, but without swelling. The six pulses are fine and rapid, which characterizes this condition. At the onset, use Liuwei Tang (Six-Ingredient Decoction) added with: Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, stir-fried with salt water, 2 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, wine-fried, 2 qian), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructum, stir-fried with salt water, 1 qian), Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix, 1 qian), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, 3 qian), Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 2 qian). Continue taking two doses, then discontinue the base of Liuwei Tang and add: Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, stir-fried with salt water), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, each 1.5 qian). Take five doses. If the Guan positions of the pulse are deep and large, treat as Jiedu (Knot Toxicity), using medications according to the Stomach Heat Toxicity section.
Bai Se Hou Feng (White Throat Wind)
This condition is caused by cold enveloping latent fire within the Lung meridian. The affected area is white and non-swollen, with red-purple ulcerated spots on top. The pulse is not rapid; the body feels hot yet fears cold, indicating that the fire desires to vent outward. Use Liuwei Tang (Six-Ingredient Decoction) added with: Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, 2 qian), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 1 qian), Ziye (Perillae Folium, 1 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 1.5 qian), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 fen), Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix, 1.5 qian), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1 qian), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, 1.5 qian). Take one or two doses, concurrently taking one dose of Baxian San (Eight Immortals Powder) dissolved in saliva and swallowed. If the color changes to red, switch to adding: Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, stir-fried with salt water, 2 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, wine-fried, 2 qian), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructum, 1 qian), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 qian). Two doses can lead to recovery.
