The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: If chronic cough persists without resolution, the disease pathogen will transmit to the Sanjiao (Triple Burner). The presentation of Sanjiao cough includes coughing accompanied by abdominal fullness and a lack of desire to eat or drink. These symptoms arise because the pathogenic factors gather in the Stomach and affect the Lung, causing excessive phlegm and saliva, facial edema, and rebellious Qi movement. Generally, the Qi of the Sanjiao is rooted in Stomach Qi; it serves as the pathway for water and grain and is the beginning and end of Qi circulation. Now, if coughing persists for a long time, it is due to the accumulation and knotting of Cold pathogens, which spread to the Middle Jiao (Stomach), resulting in abdominal fullness and anorexia. The rebellious Qi moves upward, leading to increased phlegm and saliva and puffy face and eyes.
