It is discussed that loss of appetite after typhoid fever (Shanghan) is due to the deficiency and weakness of the Spleen and Stomach. This occurs because, after sweating or purging therapies, although the pathogenic factors have been eliminated, the Qi derived from grain has not yet recovered, leading to Spleen and Stomach deficiency and thus a lack of desire for food.
**Ren Shen Wan Formula (Ginseng Pill)** for treating loss of appetite due to Spleen and Stomach deficiency after typhoid fever:
Ren Shen (Panax Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [processed with ginger juice], Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [remove seedlings and leaves], Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) [soaked in water, remove white pith, dried].
The above six herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, mixed with jujube flesh boiled into a paste, and formed into pills the size of sophora seeds. Take 15 pills per dose, administered with ginger decoction, before meals.
