Discourse states: When Yin and Yang mutually overcome each other, resulting in alternating chills and fever, it is due to the intermingling of pathogenic factors. Thus, when Qi merges with Yin, it manifests as cold; when Qi merges with Yang, it manifests as heat. In cases of cold, there is trembling and jaw chattering, caused by excess Yin and deficiency of Yang. In cases of heat, there is thirst and a desire to drink cold water, caused by deficiency of Yin and excess of Yang.
