Commentary states: Children's intestines and stomach are weak, failing to separate clear from turbid water and grain. Cold and heat pathogens interact, resulting in dysentery with mixed red and white pus and blood. If dysentery persists for a long time without healing, body fluids are depleted causing internal vexation; deficient Yang floats upward and dries the chest and diaphragm, leading to thirst and desire for drinking. If urination is free, it indicates the condition is about to heal; if urination is difficult, dampness returns to the Spleen Earth, weakening Earth Qi so it cannot control dampness. Dampness scatters and overflows into the skin causing edema, which may transform into water disease over time.
