Discussion states: The Qi of the Kidney (Shen) connects to the Ear, and the Heart (Xin) also has its orifice associated with the ear. When the meridians are unobstructed and clear, hearing becomes acute. In children, if there is excess heat in the Heart, it rushes through the meridians of the ear, causing blockage and swelling at the orifice, or generating pus; this condition is referred to as "Er Gan" (Ear Fungus/Polyp). Alternatively, if water enters the ear during bathing and stagnates without resolving, it also leads to this type of ear disease. If left untreated for a long time, it may result in deafness.
